So ICmag is pretty old now and the forums have not changed that much.

I registered here a really long time ago after Overgrow was shut down.

After a while, I stopped growing tomatoes so I stopped posting as well.

Coming back, I think the forums seriously need an overhaul to make them more accessible and user-friendly.

1) We should have themes. Maybe its because I'm a "new member" but I don't see any option to change the theme of the forum. If we could have an option to change the theme that would be great, instead of having a bunch of pot leaves in the background. Not discreet IMO.

2) The mods need to get on their game and enforce the forum topics. I see so many threads that are in the wrong forum. This makes browsing the forum annoying.

3) The way the forums are organized is annoying.

Check the Growers Forum.

We have WAY too many subforums on the Growers forum. This directly contribute to Problem #2.

Microgrows should be a subforum of Growroom Design and Equipment.
Vertical Growing and Colloseum Growing should be a subforum of Growroom design and equipment as well.

Veggies and Flowers should appear at the bottom of the list. Why does it intersect a whole list of cannabis related growing?

We should completely get rid of the New growers forum. There are only 68 threads created in there. Who even goes there anyway?

Conclusion:

I think if we make these changes the forums will be a lot more accessible.

Edit:

Examples of forums not being moderated enough.

Indoor-Soil forum has TONS of grow diaries in it. For instance:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=145105&page=9
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=164617
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=165338
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=165399 (here is one that is colloseum growing, in Indoor-Soil, when we already have a colloseum forum...)
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=165100
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=150186

Here is a thread in Indoor-Soil forum asking about equipment:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=165456

These are all on the first page.

Why don't the mods care about actually enforcing forum topics?

If you guys don't have time to do it, give me privileges to move threads and I'll do it for you.

1) Admin has already addressed this and for now, no themes

2) There's many mods, checking every forum daily. If you see something you feel isn't right, hit the ModAlert button and the post will get looked at.

3) This is an opinion....I find things quite well organized...As far having too many sub forums....it's a cultivation site....can you really have too many growing forums?

Feedback is always good, but all in all, I think we're doing pretty good!

I completely agree. I would love to get rid of the dorky pot leaves and the black on white text used for messages.

We can customize our profile pages, which hardly anyone ever visits, but we can't make the pages we actually go to all the time more readable by using something a bit more friendly on the eyes.

What would be cool is if you would actually contribute something to the site before complaining. You might try putting your energy into growing some MJ and you wont have so much time to nit pick the small stuff. just my two pennies worth.
This is a grow site ...put up a grow thread.

Can't - I'm not in a position to grow right now - but I enjoy reading the site, and contributing to those threads in which I have some expertise.

There aren't any sites I spend as much consecutive time reading as this one, and the high contrast black on white text is very tiring on my old eyes. It would be neato to have the same level of customization on the forums as there is on the profile pages.

I don't remember doing much nit picking regarding the site, but if you are only looking for input from people who have grow threads posted - I'll be sure to refrain from providing any in the future.

Thanks for the heads up.

Keep in mind....the important thing is that all that stuff is just cosmetic....the reason and purpose of the site--grow info is awesome :D

This is a grow site ?
The only thing i see growing are post counts, ads and inexperience.
Thats just my two cents though, wont buy much im sure.

If you are running Firefox, install the AdBlock Plus plugin (which is a good thing to have anyway), then add the following to your filter rules:

No more pot leaf background, just a plain green background. I still don't know an easy way to change message text font/colors/background color - if anyone else does, let me know.

Cosmetic? I don't think its cosmetic that we have a bunch of threads in the wrong forum.

Why even have subforums if they are unorganized? Why not just have a giant forum where everyone can post anything they want?

Thats how it is right now except for its segmented into a bunch of subforums.

Did you see my post about all of those threads in the wrong subforum? Did you bother to click on any of the links? those are all on the first page. Tell me why there is a grow diary forum when Indoor-Soil is also grow diaries. Tell me why there is an Equipment and Growroom Design forum?

As of right now,

Indoor-Soil Growing is also a Growroom Design and Equipment forum, as well as a grow diary forum.

What kind of an attitude is this? Contribute to the site? I AM contributing to the site by pointing out its flaws. Unless of course you think that the only way to contribute to this website is to post a bunch of grow threads. Is this what this site is for? Just grow diaries and grow journals? If so then maybe I stumbled upon the wrong website after overgrow collapsed.

I thought this place was a place for experiments, learning how to grow, developing new methods to grow more efficiently, not just a place to post grow diaries and "grow threads." in random forums chaotically.

The only thing I would love to see is a new site design personally. There are always SOME posts and threads and sections all together that really get next to no traffic BUT the sub forums odds are came due to someone complaining that too many things are grouped together. I don't think mods could win on this because someone would complain that there need to be a few more sub forums and others saying there are too many.

Also many people tend to go to specific sections and bypass the others all together, what might not be looked at alot by you MIGHT be looked at plenty by others even if there are not a ton of responses. If the article in the post is good or a how to then sometimes not as many responses happen due to it being written well and no extra explanation is needed.

I kinda like the way it is. Only suggestion I have is to make it easier to search for relevant information. In relevant, I mean, the information Im looking for at the time. That way there wont be so many threads asking questions which may already be answered. Its workable though.

Well actually I think its a bit of a insult to the webmaster and owner considering it wasnt all that long ago that this site was upgraded. This is a site thats primary purpose is to sell seeds and teach people how to grow. Yea theres a few things out of place here and there but remember theres over a 100k thousand members here .... and all the work but the webmaster is volunteer. Hearing we do such a shitty job for time we donate can tend to touch a nerve. Sorry your ocd is such a problem :) hehhe JK
