Seriously, you retired the bubbler for this? 100% success with no effort, no dome, and no cloning solution with the bubbler, I didn't think it got any easier.
seriously, lol, i did indeed put that bubbler away in favor of my ice-tube-trays.

the bubbler worked fine for me but demanded much more attention than these trays do and, because this method is totally passive, there are no pumps that can fail on you, and there is MUCH less cleaning involved. ...also, my bubbler only did 18 cuts at a time and i can fit 2 of these ice-tube-trays in the same space so i can do 54 cuts in the space i used to need for 18.

believe me, this method is the simplest way to root clones i've ever seen.

...and for anyone STILL having trouble finding them they are available at REI or you can do a Google search, ...for instance, they are available at Amazon so, if you want them bad enough, you can find them.

...also, while i like the idea of the translucent popsicle trays, i don't see any way to remove your clones other than tugging them out which WILL damage some roots on some clones, that's why i made a little ram-rod to PUSH my clones out.

The product is called "Ice tube"

even better. on the REI website, it says the Ice Tube is made in the USA

Went to a local REI on Christmas eve and picked up the last one. ;)

Thanks for all your posts Someotherguy. I went through all your old ones in this thread and think I've perfected my technique and figured out why my old clones all died. (humidity dome)

you're welcome man, glad i could help.

btw, Burnt Rope is the original poster of this thread and he brought it with him from the old OG site so we all that use this have him to thank, not me.

anyway, cloning is something i don't sweat anymore, as far as i'm concerned, i've mastered cloning, period.

oh yeah, i don't use a heat mat with a probe, just a cheap aquarium thermometer i picked up for $3.00 but i just put that hanging down into the reservoir and it works just fine, no need to insert it into one of the cells.

hope this helps, SOG

After having inconsistent results with the various cloning method I've tried, I'm locked in on this method.

Thank you to the OP and all contributors to this thread.

Success rate is way up there, I have to remember that I don't need to take so many cuts, when so many thrive.

Cloning has gone from a tense watch and constant second guessing headache, to a passive tray that sits on a heat mat in the Veg room. When I transplant them into Beer Cups, some of the slower cuts may not have roots yet. I transplant and wait awhile, they catch on.

Happy New Year,

This is the shit. The ice tube tray is the best. I posted earlier in this thread. I've got it nailed now. I prop up the tube tray about 2" or so so I can make the water depth deeper. I use a cheap aquarium heater to heat the water. For additives to really guarantee good clones I use one teaspoon Maxicrop seaweed powder per gallon. Also two tablespoons or better per gallon H2O2 to kill root rot. Every two days or so I splash a little more H2O2 in the reservoir. Before I put my clones in the tube tray I spray the top of the media filled tray with H2O2. Root rot is a bitch but I don't have any.

Holy crap! I remember when this thread was one page and people were just asking what part of walmart sold this. And now bam 42pages!

high man, just for shit's and giggle's, try using less and less H2O2 and see how you do because i just stick my trays in a shoe box sized container with plain tap-water, NO additives at all, plus, i don't spray ANYTHING, EVER, there's just is no need.

and don't take me wrong as i'm not criticizing you, i'm just saying that you may be over-complicating things for yourself.

...keep in mind that you can't get root rot until you have roots so with these cloners, your cuts will either die very quickly because you did something wrong or they will stand up and look healthy until they push out some roots.

like i said, i'm not criticizing and you can't argue with success, if you're getting good results then there is no NEED for you to change what you're doing, that's why i suggest a measured approach, slowly eliminating the H2O2 until you find out whether you actually need it or not, ...i believe you don't.

btw, don't sweat algal growth in your res as that won't hurt your clones, it just looks bad.

peace, SOG

here you can see the base of one of my cloners and how nasty it gets from all the algae.

I can testify to the fact that this thing works GREAT !!! my oarange cush plant has been a bitch to clone !! i've tried bubblers , aero cloners , soil & finally the ice cube cloner with fine grade vermiculite & just tap water .... nothing else .... just top off the water every couple days & replaced the water once when it was slimey ... & in 2 weeks had roots coming out the holes in the blue caps on bottom .... fuckin A dude !!! this thing works the tits !!!

no dome .... its not needed , just make sure your temps are between 75 to 80 degrees no higher no lower . works great every time !!!

high man, i just wanted to say that i try to keep my temps as close to 80 - 82 as i can, i find that when i let the temps go below 80 things start to slow down and the lower the temps get, the slower the cuts root.

if you go back and read the first couple of pages in this thread you'll see the original poster suggests 80 - 82 as the ideal temperature range to shoot for.

...oh and Dignan, like dansbuds said, no dome required, that's one of the great things about this cloning method, it's almost set-and-forget quality.

anyway, here's a pic where you can see one of my cloners doing it's thing, sans dome, lol.

with me ... if temps got above 78 to 80 they got soft stemmed & wilted off & died on me . but 75 was perfect for me . it may be cuz i have an aquarium thermometer in the water in the bottom rez where the water sets & thats the temps i'm reading not the ambient temps around the clones . i prolly should have stated that when i was giving my opinion on temps . sorry if i misguided anybody . :(

i don't have a pic of that cloner with the therm but i have another pic that shows how i get my temps ....
camperpics124.jpg

oh & by the way all these methods of cloning i'm showing you ...failed miserably !!! the only one that worked was the bubble cloner & it was still a 75% fail rate . except for the walmart cloner ... i got 90% with it in 2 weeks i had roots coming out of the holes in the blue bottom caps .need to get pics of that next round of clones.

yeah man, no troubles, i knew you weren't misleading anyone.

here's a little test i'd suggest you try and it'll only cost about 3 bucks, USD. ...and i hate to send you to Walmart but i'm sure if you go there you'll find aquarium thermometers in the pet section, not a heater, just a thermometer.

picture.php

then just put that thermometer into your cloner's reservoir and find out for sure whether or not the thermostat on that heater is accurate or not.

that's why i designed my clone box above to be as passive as possible, recapturing the heat from the bulbs suspended below the cloners and above the newly rooted, vegging clones.

actually, back in the days before i built that cab i ran my cloners in my closet and i kept the reservoirs warm with a small desk-lamp underneath them, lol.

picture.php

anyway, i'd bet that heat mat was manufactured somewhere in China by someone who is paid $3.00 a day to assemble them, lol, so i'd recommend you check and verify, lol.

in other words, don't set it for what you want, measure what it is.

I understand perfectly. I'm ok with constructive critism and yes people do tend to go a little nuts online. I've tried it without and I just have bad fungus problems where I grow. I recently started adding the seaweed after a failure where 80% didn't make it. Under the same conditions with the same plants 100% made it with seaweed added. Maybe most won't need the additives I used I'm just trying to tell people what I've used that raised the success levels higher. The whole idea is to make the process idiot proof. Yes idiot proof is good. I have my moments just like everyone else.

bozo ..... next round of clones i think i'll use both thermometers just to see if there is a difference between water temps & ambient ( room ) temps .

yeah my seedling mat is prolly a chinese made piece of crap .... but its workin for me as of now . if it stops givin me good results .... at least i have your idea as a next step to take . :)

yeah man, i'm not suggesting you stop using the mat, just that you stop relying on the thermostat that comes with it as it is likely inaccurate. ...which is why i suggested you test it with a thermometer in the reservoir to give you the actual temps, that way, if it IS inaccurrate, you'd know it and be able to adjust to it.
