Well guys im high and bored and IC Mag forums seem to be slow to me so i was wodering if some people want to school me on tree lingo/heritage.

Basically i want to know what a land race strain is.

Why Poeple make IBL's (im guessing to try and get close to original or to single out traits)

Is haze just a familiy like white, blue, cherry etc..

And any other thing that might go along with this that people might now know. Sorry if its boring but i know we have just tons of people that are just dictionaries on the subject -=].

There's varying definitions for landrace but it generally a line that has fully acclimated to it's conditions and is typically capable of growing feral or wild in its native environment. They've almost always been growing in the same region for a very long time without hybridization. Sometimes they've been in their region of origina for centuries or even millenia. Landrace strains don't have to be drug producing and can also be seed or like in the case of the united states fiber producing cultivars and are generally named after their region of origin. Broad examples of drug producing landrace strains would be highland oaxaca gold, thai, afghani, swazi redbeard etc.

There's several reasons someone would create an ibl including to fix a desirable trait so it occurs in a higher percentage of offspring, to allow a strain to consistently produce a predictable product over many generations and to use in the production of new f1 varieties.

The origins of haze have been somewhat controversial as of late but generally it is a line bred from several pure tropical sativas and was worked with in california in the late 60's early 70's. Some say haze was a generic term used to describe tropical sativa plants that produce a certain high, others say it can only refer to a particular line bre by the haze brothers.

nah man..its not a dumb thread..and theres no such thing as a stupid question either. Its good to see one eager to learn this wonderful world of mj! search around the site some more and if ya have any particular questions, dont be afraid to give a shout out.

Landrace refers to the part of the world that it is naturaly found in-
Indicas are native to:
* Afghani (Lowland, Highland - Afghan kush)
* Arab
* Chinese
* Iranian
* Lebanese
* Moroccan (Kif)
* North Indian
* Pakistani
* Tajikistani
* Turkish
* Uzbekistani
Sativas are common to:
* African (Durban Poison, Swazi, Congolese, Malawi Gold, Angolese, Lesothan, Nigerian)
* Brazillian (Manga Rosa, Santa Maria)
* Burmese
* Cambodian
* Colombian (Colombian Red, Santa Marta Colombian Gold)
* Indian
* Jamaican
* Japan (Fijian)
* Laotian
* Mexican (Acapulco gold, Oaxacan, Zacatecas Purple, Guerrero Gold, Michoacan)
* Miami haze
* Nepalese
* Nigeria (Nigerian)
* Panama (Panama Red)
* Paraguayan
* Swaziland (Swazi Red)
* Thai (Lemon Thai, Juicy Fruit Thai, Chocolate Thai)

IBL= In Bred Line. When certain traits are desired, the breeder will work to stabilize them so the offspring will produce results similar to the original mom.

And yup Haze is an Original landrace, but dont get confused because white widow is not a landrace. It is a hybrid. dont forget the Gold family. =)

My Vietnamese landrace cabinet grow. Seeds came from some bagseed I smoked in Nha Trang. She's 6 weeks into flower and I pollinated a couple buds with a Holy Gold male before he got the chop.
