I totally destroyed these jiffy clones...?

First time cloning and into jiffy peat pellets. I've read all the threads about cloning into solo cups with chlorinated tap water and having near 100% success rates...

Mine look like they've finally kicked the bucket...each one...over water? under water?

i soaked the cubes until completely saturated and took cuttings with olivias....sprayed em couple times a day...after a couple days i misted the pellet itself because it looked to be losing moisture...theyve been going limp, then jumping up then going limp...now they are just limp...the cube looked/felt super dry...so i just watered the cubes...but maybe ive over watered? i checked one clone....not a single root...they went in on the 6th...

they have been subjected to extreme temp changes...they were on top of blankets on top of a radiator to keep them warm (room cold), but then i noticed they'd practically be steaming so ive kept them on the floor next to the radiator...but now i guess they are cooked? fuuuuu

I am guessing they dried out in which case, there is little to do. On the other hand, it is definitely not out of the question to be rootless after only 6 days. In fact most take 7-14 days but some can take up to a month to root.

immaculate,
I've started cuttings in straight water, so it is unlikely too much water is a problem. They should never wilt, unless you let them dry out or let them get too hot. Don't over work this; it should be fairly easy. Strong cutting, cut at an angle to expose the most area for roots to grow, some root stimulant, placed in your peat pots and in a tray with just enough water to keep the pots wet, moderate light, and wait... Sometimes I trim the leaves a bit if they are large.

Slightly stupid question here... but you do have them in a dome, right? Sounds to me like they are drying out super fast, which in turn makes me ask if they are in a propagator / humidity dome.

Wow. I've certainly let them get too dry/hot then...ive saturated them and kept them in more stable temps and they are still showing signs of life...didn't realize i should leave water in the tray. d'oh...thanks

devil: yep, in a dome

I kinda jumped to conclusions immediately and thought that too much water was causing wilting....read some threads and kinda bugged..thanks again guys

Ya know, I have killed everything I have tried to clone so far, not tons of plants, but probably 6 or 8. I thought it was the medium, so changed to rock wool and actually got some roots, but apparently I am dense and still missing something. Oh yeah, the other thing was that a lot of people say let them dry out to encourage root growth, or at least that's what I got from it. I have some going right now and I might actually get a few to live, but for something that is so simple for others it has been a frustrating and humbling experience thus far.

Yeah, I have not tried cloning mj yet but I have cloned cat nip, and tons of pepper plants this summer. The cat nip was super easy but the pepper plants too a bit more finesse. I have seen people say to let the medium dry out to encourage root growth as well and I am sure it helps but it's easy to let it go too far. Read around and you'll see even some of the pros have the hardest time with cloning so don't get frustrated. Keep trying new things and soon enough you will have a technique that suits your situation.

Peat pucks are simple bro..

soak em, get some rooting powder, tap off excess powder, throw em under a dome for a few days and dont mist the cuttings, the dome will keep the humidity up and keep em happy.. Dont even take the dome off for two days, just leave that shit on and then slowly pull the lid off for short periods of time to harden em off.. Dont water pucks again until you see roots shooting out and its drying up, you want the roots to look for water...

Set the pellets in and under a bed of hydroton/expanded clay aggregate in your 'clone dome'. Mist the first day and leave, after 3 days take the dome off and just let them be, misting the cuttings and hydroton bed daily till you see roots emerging. Fresh air around leaves and not too high temperatures in the root zone are your best friends because most likely some fungal or bacterial dampening-off disease is the cause of your issues. The root zone should be reasonably warm but not too warm and should have a stable temperature.

BTW jiffies used to work well for me, sometimes good success rates and sometimes complete failures. The clay pellet base trick helped my success rates but I built an aerocloner from plans on the site and haven't looked back.. Good luck with your babies!
