Negril always had cool places to stay and a great beach. You won't have any problems finding good ganja. places down on the beach were where the action was with the bars and restaurants. The places up on the cliffs were a bit mellower. I haven't been there in 25 years so I'm not sure what hotels are there anymore.
Don't try Trenchtown...

oh Jamaica, I really should have heeded the advice of the gun toting dudes manning the gate. I am big on just walking around and meeting local folks when I travel. The record skip as all the rastas turned to look when I walked into the bar is etched in memory, wound up alright/interesting but man that was a dumb move on my part.
The weed wasn't great, cheap and plentiful, but eh...yeah...can't say I would go back. Is there a real reason to go other than its tropical and has weed? I would be looking at south America or south east Asia for that experience.

we stayed in Negril and it was super easy to find ganja.
so easy, in fact, that within ten minutes of walking onto the resort (Sandals) a guy with a satchel came right up to me, in the middle of the crowded bar, pulled out a HUGE cola and asked me if I needed some 'erb.
bought it on the spot.
sticky. strong. cheap.
and no one batted an eye. in fact, people laughed.

(keep in mind, its still technically illegal in Jam.)

you could go full 60s hippy, and make trips to the mountains with a local, but, when its that easy and safe to find it right at the place you stay? no brainer!
unless youre one of those 'lonely planet' types that require an adventure with your smoke....than by all means. but, Jam isn't like it was in the 60s and 70s.
