Thanks for the forthcoming april issue beforehand.
I just read the homepage here.. (guess I was lost in the forums a bit)
And this is something I was wishing for a long time.
Like every time someone mentions our good buddy jason I think.
Why isn't anyone keeping track of landrace?
We must protect the building blocks and cornerstones.
Or the temple willl crumble...
I want a years subscription brau!

Protection

Protection

Protection and conservation of Land Races IBLS and True Breeding types is imperative.

This is a wonderful idea Gypsy and all others involved.

I am actively working on and toward preserving as many types as I can.

I have access to storage in Nitrogen for a ceratin quantity and refrigeration freeze/dessicant storage.

I also have and plan on continuing to re-grow and make new seeds of all these types once per year as a back up.

My plans also include helping others obtain these.

Before any more dilution can occur I think it is paramount that all concerned growers and breeders should make some effort toward this.

And it can be FUN, think of the opportunity for hybrid vigor from first F1 crosses!!!

look up Hybrid Vigor and you will see what I mean!

HAVE FUN ALL.

ITS ALL GOIN TO CHANGE!
now you got people in thailand, brazil, jamaica and other places growing hybrids ,,,where landraces originated... most of these people are growing outdoor plants and the chances of wind pollenation from a hybrid is more likely than not!
over a few years we could see new lines emerge or landraces that get "modified" thru pollination!
it could be a good thing???
a plant that is grown in the tropics would still be acclimated to that season so you might get a super duper landrace like weve never seen to date?????
or???? it could all lose its original appeal???
i doubt it would be for the worse!!!

maybe one day the only pure anything would be inside in somebody's growroom???

Over Simplifying. Its too easy to say something so broad and un founded. Why dont you ask growers in these countrys if they can pull a sucessfull seedless crop. Atleast thats a start to being accurate in what your saying.

bump what southwind said about F-1 HYBRIDS!!!

and one can only create a true F-1 hybrid with true landrace parents......

I love the Stand Your Ground message in the new issue.....ya gotta draw a line in the sand sometime and that time is now!!!

:ying: guineapiggin' can you dig it? :ying:

The great thing about the magazine is that it will be able to fund seed gathering expeditions and document the indigenous cultures that use them. I believe the magazine will be the first "serious" cannabis magazine ever without the hype of rock stars and naked women on the cover. It will be the first magazine to portray modern cannabis enthusiasts as thoughtful worldly people and the indigenous cultures that use cannabis as posessing wisdom passed down for millenia.

Sadly, only about 10% landrace genetics commercially available are worthy of returning to the tropics for preservation. Fortunately, as wonderful people like redrider mriko and luiz have shown us many of the great landrace varieties that were though to be extinct are alive and well in the region of origin. It will be amazing to see photos and article by the people doing the seed collecting of the people they're being collected from. It is our duty to support the magazine as long as it is acting in th best interests of the cannabis community throughout the world, and remind the magazine when it isn't what it's job is. I swear that this next issue will not disappoint there's already tons of work going into it as we speak.

I remember a hightimes issue in the 70's or very early 80's that had a list of landrace..
"the worlds strains " or something they called it..
I wish at least once a month; I knew which issue, or had a copy.
It kills me to see how much the modern grower is into jasons cannabible...
Old school knows it all begins with the landrace...
Without it those beutiful hybrids in the cannabible will diminish over time...
BUt anyways this issue had this article on landrace. Like 150 plus sativas and 40 or 50 plus indicas.. All described in detail....
I would give a couple of fingers from each hand for that article still.
Just to compare it to the new list gypsy and co are compiling.
Hey Don't forget zihuatenejo purple guys...
In fact you can send me down there and I'll get it ...

Unfortunately Zihuatanejo's gotten pretty touristy now. Real estate there has skyrocketed and I doubt much herb is being grown there anymore. Its kind of the new acapulco. It's pretty much THE place for wealthy americans who want a place on the mexican pacific coast. Lots of americans buying vacation homes and b&b's. Though the same strain may be grown elsewhere in guerrero under a different name. However I don't know about popocateptl blue or popo oro both of which have been on my list for years. The original strain was supposed to be grown by an indian tribe. If that's the case than they've probably been forced off the volcanic mountain but who knows? Also sadly oaxaca has broken into some serious civil unrest lately. Guerrero and Michoacan are known for violence and sadly when I was last there the the herb was similar to what grows from seeds found in most modern mexican brickweed found in the u.s. However with some good connections maybe this stuff can still be found. When I was in oaxaca however the good leafy airy sativas were still around. At the time me and my English speaking friends from group I was with called it "jungle bud" because of the wild look. This was well over a decade ago and I wasn't versed in the world of cannabis like I am today but I did remember that it really stood out in terms of both visual qualities and psychoactive effect. That said my connection in Oaxaca was an older guy of a more traditional sort who got his herb from psilocybin eating curanderos and the friend's who got me herb in Guerrero were just regular smokers so that could explain my experience.

.....Love me?......Love the plant that made me.....and preserve it!

.....Love me?......Love the plant that made me.....and preserve it!

...Greetings from the Jungle!

...Thank you for the support one and all. We will need all of you to help us in this quest, it is more than I can achieve alone, too big a task for any one man. I have been thinking and discussing with close friends how we can achieve real preservation for a long time, as I have been aware of the pressures upon the plants and the traditional cultivating cultures I have visited around the globe for a long time.

...I am devoting the resources of the Magazine to this mission and we are sure that the IC Magazine team can achieve some significant progress in Cannabis conservation for the public good. We have the Magazine to form a lasting record of the cultures who created and have nurtured these plants that have given us all the modern Varieties we love so much today. We need to preserve and protect their history, traditions and world as this is what gave rise to those creations.

...The Magazine will enable us to put our reporters deep into the heart of these traditional peoples and places, bringing you closer than ever before with the DVD and emphasis on the peoples, as well as the plants. It is a serious publication for those that want to see and to know the truth, it is our communities best chance to go there, report and collect.

...We need your support to get behind the Magazine, to subscribe or buy a single issue, as this is the route to getting more reporters to be able to go to these places and document what is there. I can only do so much as resources are not unlimited here, but if the community supports the Magazine and its 'Save the Strains' campaign, I will plough those funds back in to make sure we can go as fast as is possible.

...It is your chance to show what you want, to support and effectively help sponsor the effort. If we can grow the Magazine, just as we have grown the growers and this site, we can support members from the community in their collection efforts and the writing of reports from every corner of the globe.

...Out team will be collecting genetics in the most professional way possible so it is great to see ideas for that, keep them coming folks. We will be collecting bulk seed stocks from these places and preserving them deep in purpose built storage facilities in multiple locations. Of course we will also be sharing those seeds out in the community too and supporters of the project will get access to our Landrace seed stocks.

...This is the time to put away differences, I've noted and been involved in many 'heated' conversations over the years with regard to the best ways´forward with preservation. The bottom line is, time is running out to gather and save what is left of the bio-diversity of this most sacred species. We must join together now, stand strong, use the full power of our knowledge and community to its fullest.

...We can have what we want, the only question remaining is, how much do we REALLY want it!
