I have a security breach

Y

yamaha_1fan

My 6 y/o keeps coming in the basment and asking me what I am building and when am I going to take my plants out of the plastic box (my seedlings out of the dome).

Do I ship him to China? LOL

The seedlings are no biggie. My wife has an outside garden and has been planting/starting seeds for the last 3 months so I just tell him those are mommies plants that I am helping with.

Anyone else with kids? How do you handle it?

Build something else & take it somewhere. That way they know something was built & delivered. No more questions as to "what was built. Stop building anything in front of a kindergarten child. D.A.R.E can be a somebeoytch.
I have a 4 & 5 year old. I keep them away, they never see. I have a very small set up, but no one to know right.
My best example is in 1990 I am sitting w/family at the table. I ask my little 7 year old neice how was school today. She said they discussed alcohol & drugs at school. She then replies that Her Uncle *** & her Daddy drank beer. Then she said the part that really bothered, she says her Mommy & Uncle *** smoke Cigs, but my Daddy smokes a big pipe. .. All this at 7 years old.

I am still deciding what to do as they get older.

I hear ya with the O/S garden. I am lucky in that sense. I grow & sell tomato plants & tomatoes during the year. So all they know is tomatoes.

be careful, with a kid around. I've heard of stories about kids getting there parents busted because they said some thing to a teacher or a cop in the class room.

I do not hide anything...as hiding it insinuates that I think it is wrong--
I have 3 kids...a son 23, daughter 19, and daughter 9--
I have made sure they are educated about Marijuana since day one--
If you hide it...they will find it-- :rasta:

You are the parent...you have a computer with a clean hard drive...how you gonna program it?? (Ignorance is NOT the best policy)

^^^^^ That's your unique case. In the eyes of the law it IS wrong, not to mention illegal.

If you hide it... they will find it... NOT!!! I dont believe that one.

I like the idea of ...Simply locking the door. You can even get one of those combo or fingerprint locks.

Good luck

I used to know a couple that smoked reguarly, they would alway be cafeful not to keep a pipe out in the open or in front of the kids. They told me it was because they heard sometimes the dare/school cops while educating the young ones on drugs and alcohol will actually ask the kids if they have seen a pipe or anything, I guess to try and bust the parents? Not saying it actually true but who knows. Be careful, you never know what your kids might say or who they have been talking to.

I would stick to what you are doing and maybe put a couple other plants in there just to make it look like something its not. He might get a little suspecious though if they start flowering/stinking don't have an answer for that. I don't have any kids but I would just try and hid it from him the best I could.

I *only* work (and smoke) when they are asleep/away. I also keep everything in a locked room, along with the gun safe. If anyone asks "why the locked room?" - to double protect the kids from the guns.

I don't have kids of my own, but have taken care of all the age groups. Educating since day one is a must... BUT I think there is a certain day, unique to that kid, where there eyes can be "opened".

Educate them properly on drugs, but wait till they are mature enough to know your on the hitlist.

I always get an ice cold chill down my spine when anyone does anything "questionable" in front of a kid. Similar to IEDs in Iraq. Just like girlfriends.

*edit* Lock your basement, tell him you are putting together furniture for some friends. Or trying woodworking as a hobby, then when your done with the build, say it wasn't for you.

The basement should probably be completely off-limits tho. That is your special place to relax and get away from mommy.

Maybe you should try out some different hobbies. Good cover for spending all that time in there, and you might just find one you really enjoy. Don't really have to do it, just have the materials for proof.

You're absolutely correct on that point! If it were an isolated thing, that's one thing. But a friend of mine, with kids in school, said that they came home one day saying that the cops were telling the kids that they needed to tell them if their parents were smoking this stuff (weed) and that they were sick and needed the police to help them.

Nice huh? Probably coming from the mouth of someone who drinks a few beers each night after work.

Anyone ever seen DARE outside of WalMart? Doucebag volunteers running around preaching the word of DEA. The look on their faces is priceless when you start preaching right back at them and throwing facts on their lap. Not something to do with the kids around though, but fun nonetheless.

WOAHWOAHWOAHWOAH! STOP RIGHT THERE! Get the effing guns out of the house if you are growing pot! Let alone keeping them in there with them... Jesus Christ! Go look up your state's laws on growing penalties, then look up what happens when they find you in possession of a firearm, too. Forgive me if you are a legal med patient from a state where these kind of antics are legal, but I have a tough time believing that this could be legal anywhere.

I was going to tell you that kids are curious by nature, and I remember when I taught myself how to pick a lock at the ripe old age of 9. I sent away for a kit from an ad in the back of a boyscout magazine my friend had. Kids can't keep quiet about something if they don't know they are supposed, or what they are talking about. And then when they do know, you will find yourself being held hostage by a 12 year old.

I remember when my little bro used to act a fool, and get my mom fired up. One time we were at the supermarket and she starts to count to three and he starts screaming, "CHILD ABUSE!!!! IM GOING TO CALL 1800 FOR A CHILD! CHILD ABUSE!!!!" He was like 6.

It sounds to me like you are entering a phase where you need to put your kid before yourself. Now, I don't wan't any of you guys who grow with young children around to come down on me. If you think this is a good idea, so be it, our children are our own to raise nowadays. If the kids are lucky. I would say the exception is growing for medical, legal use.

Personal use/recreational growing, manufacture, all that shit should go out the window when you decide to have a kid. Mind you these are through the idyllistic eyes of a 25 year old with no kids. How well are your wife and her new boyfriend going to raise your child when you get thrown in the pokey? Plus, despite what our own views are on the subject, I feel that one has an obligation to instill certain things in their kids early on, as a foundation. Things like obeying the law, not lying to your kids, and setting the example. You have to suck it up and live squeaky clean for a few crucial years so they can make their own mistakes, not start out with yours.

Then, when they are old enough to ask questions about stuff like the legality of some drugs, etc. you tell them that any type of drug can impair the growing mind, wait till you are at least a senior in HS, and then if you want I'll burn one with you. DO THAT ONLY ONCE until they are back from college on their first vaca. No need to have them questioning everything you raised them with. You tell them that these laws are unjust, we need to work to change them, and weed is not heroin. Growing MJ is a hobby for some, a get rich quick, unfulfilling existence for others, and many of our nation's struggling farmers have supplemented their meager incomes with a few rows of her.

Exp[lain that smoking does not make you a bad person, you may hate it you may love it. You may never be able to germinate a seed, you may invent some newfangled grow invention. Whatever you do, I love you, and I want the best for you. If you get arrested because of our crazy laws, no school, no j-o-b and I ain't paying for you all your life, kiddo. So, no growing under my roof, lest they seize my house on you account, and no smoking until you are 18. My .02
