I have a problem!A big problem!

Okay an one who can help me out with this i'd really appreciate it. If i was using a 2000w oil heater everday for 14hours would that seriously up my bill. I didn't think it would that much cos they heat the oil up and then switch off for 10-15 mins befor they come on again to re-heat and so on.

The reason i'm asking is cos my landlord said that the electrcity bill was 500euro (its normally about 120-150) but she thinks it was a mistake cos they said that they lost the reasing or something like that.

What i need to know is would this heater cause that much of a bill.I need to know cos if it does and i have t pay it then i'm fucked. I fit doesn;t and the bill still says that then an electrician might have to come into fix the problem.

find what the cost of electricity is in your region and then multiply by the wattage and number of hours used...

Do i multiply the wattage by the hours. Like this : 10hours by 100w = 1000W/1kw so if 1kw of elctricity is £1 then 10 hours of 100w = £1

Ya i'm thinking it must be a mistake cos going by that formula even if i was being charged the standard day time rate all the time(even though i run it at nights) then it still should only be 230euro that it would cost to run the heater and as i said normally my bills are around 120 so 350 should be the max. Must be a mistake. My landlord could have read the meter wrong or they could have made a mix up inside or something. Her's hoping anyway.

Thanks for all your help. It puts my mind at ease!

Ya it did make me a bit paranoid but i'm being careful and if i have to move my plants i can but i think i should be fine. Seeming as there is no heating in the house a bill that size can be understood cos electric heaters have to be used!

hey guys

I also have one of those heaters..and i´m certain that they spend a lot...here in portugal we have those analog meters in the stair hall, and i checked out the velocity of it spinning, with and without the heater working...and it was pretty fast!lol
I´m not saying it wasent a mistake, but be carefull.

Peace

Ya i did that to and it goes about 3-4 times faster then it does when i have it off but still 500 is very steep. Spose time will tell!

After taking a quick look at those power saving devices,I'm scratching my head in confusion and suspicion.Being an electrician, I'd take these devices and what they claim with a grain of salt, but unfortunately that would just be a waste of good sodium lol.You are not going to save 30% on your power bill,if you save 10% on your power bill please let us all know, miracles are few and far between but do happen lol
