I have a basic question about a "seed crop"

If i were to buy some serious seeds ak47, they are supposed to be pretty stable right? like not much variation? well i heard that if i breed a male with a female they will be f2? which will make them unstable? but will highten my chances of finding a rare phenotype?

i guess my question is how can i get a seed crop of nice ak47 that is stable.. is that possible? or is it just how plants breed and i dont have the right parents?

also, what if i had some misty from nirvana? are those stable? whav if i tried breeding male with female? are there different traits thus resulting in an unpredictable plant?

Well with a cross like ak47 the most stable generation from seed will be the f1... right from the breeders pack. In order to have another stable generation you will either need to buy another pack (if you absolutely have to go from seed) or you will have to make f2's.. f3's.. f4's.. until you stabilize the strain. This, as you may have guessed, requires sufficient breeding knowledge and skill at plant selection.

Can I ask why you want a stable crop from seed? Your best bet for a stable crop is to grow out a pack of ak47, pick a mother, take cuttings and grow those out. They will be genetically the same and thus will be all female and extremely uniform.

It depends. If the line is stable, i.e. an IBL, a REAL ibl as opposed to some gimmick label unscrupulous breeders might use to sell more seeds , then you could certainly inbreed further and get a pretty stable crop... however there is also the chance that youll run into inbreeding depression. Its a balance between stability and vigor, and really no one knows where that line is without experimentation. I honestly dont think you'll run into instability though, I think the AK line has probably been worked enough by SS

well.. I know what i'm doing when it comes to growing, but i've only grown from clones.. possibly mislabled.. although i know the majority of my strains were correct, they were all basically horrible genetics. so I was gifted 5 misty beans and i want to buy some ak47s.. just thought it would be cool to just grow each plant from seed.. just thought it would be that extra step... but i do plan on finding a good mom from the ak's. that was my original plan, but it was easy to pull 100 seeds from a couple females then i would just do that too.. it would be fun. i think lol..

with that said, about creating f2's, does that make it possbile to find a higher yielding more potent phenotype of ak then what i got from the pack?

That depends on how stable the line is. The more stable it is, the more uniform the offspring will be, and the less variation youll see. If you want a higher yeilding AK, cross your best male with your best yeilding female, then hopefully your offspring will have better yeild on average than the original seeds.

Depends on what you want in the offspring. Extreme vigor is usually a quality thats desired. But also things like, faster flowering times, height, aroma and smell, branching, that kind of stuff... some people even smoke their males to sample potency. Basically you make your selections based on what you consider to be ideal.

Vigor, Node spacing, amount of flower clusters, smell and growth characteristics.

With Ak47 you may find a few phenos you like. Alot look for the cherry pheno. Best bet is find a nice strong male with heavy clusters tight node spacing and reeks and cross it to your favorite girl. keep the beans around forever, good luck and good grow

grow some more beans that 15 of the originals and search for the most potent female from the bunch with the most desirable traits , like good resination , easy cloning , good vigor ... , as you do this you do the same with all males ... - flower them out separated and search for resinated males ... they are there ...
