I hate the US healthcare system

The cheapest one avaliable to me in 2017...$226.19 a month, $7150 deductible.

I can't believe I'm strong-armed into paying for this bullshit by the US government. I don't drink or use tobacco. I exercise regularly and I haven't been to the doctor in 5 years. What a fucking crock. I've had to pay for this shit every year since it went into effect and I've never used it once.

I am in the same boat, though I do go to see my doctor once or twice a year. No choice but to sign up with Obamacare. Its either that or pay a fat fine.

But that may change soon with the new administration. We shall see.

Hope and change alright, you hope to have some change left in your pocket by the time he leaves office.

Is that just for yourself?

I haven't had to use it either but I may need to soon.

Covered my dads chemo and surgery!

Canadians have it free but have to wait months just to see their family practitioner and their dental is even worse than ours. I wish things were better set up here in the states.

Yeah tess, that's just for me.

People need healthcare. I'd want my dad to be covered if he was going through what yours is. I will eventually need it sometime or the other. I just wish it was more reasonable.

My friend that sells insurance said there's no middle ground. free ride or fucked over. He said because there is so many people that have it free, they try to gouge people that do pay. Cost difference needs to be made up somewhere. Folks that are in a higher tax bracket, like myself, get reamed.

I'll be over it by tmrw. I'm just bitchin. Can't change it anyway so no reason to get my undies in too much of a bunch.

premiums would be higher today without the affordable care act. i know you're saying thanks obama condescendingly but it's actually true. obamacare isn't perfect by any means but it is better than what was in place previously. the numbers back this up.

We learned a hard lesson...if they want a program like this...which on paper is great...they have to force the insurance companies all in like they force all the people in...socialist programs can work...but if you want em...it's got to be full on "WE running this shit"

what we have in place now with the affordable care act/obamacare historically (not too long ago) was the position the republicans argued for on health care with universal/single payer/medicare for all being the liberal position (now viewed as socialist or communist).

obamacare is basically a mandate to buy private health insurance, in which the rules and law have been written up by the private health insurance companies and their shills in congress. it's a joke, but at least better than what we had before.

healthcare should be a basic tenet of any modern society

i agree with subrob, there should be an social option that guarantees basic health coverage for everyone

/the plan we have now, obamacare, was written by the insurance companies put in place to shift the burden of taking care of a basic human need from the public sector to the private sector (folks like oct and myself)

all i meant was in terms of coverage and keeping premium cost down. it's doing what it was intended to do, and doing it better than the previous system.

in terms of just about everything else it is abysmal. healthcare should be viewed as a right in this country.

So True.

Unfortunately insurance companies and pill lobby have found loop holes. They are the ones driving up the price.

Yep....they are afraid a phytochemical will take precedence, thus road blocks wherever they can deter cannabis as medicine.
And profit over people's well being. How did it get so skewed??? Don't get me started! Already know the answer(s).

It is a good quote and I misunderstood it initially, that's why the message with the rep I gave you might be confusing...

I briefly looked into Christian Healthcare Ministries but didn't get too far. I was going to consider it if I didn't land a job with healthcare. It does meet any government requirements...

Anyone who thinks Obamacare is good, or better, or anything other than a total disaster is not paying attention. I challenge anyone with real world experience to tell me how this current arrangement is sustainable, or better than what existed before. I gladly pay the penalty, and it is not insignificant. If you do not qualify for the full subsidy, which almost no one does, unless you are a flat out worthless parasite, then you will pay major bank for your coverage. Premiums, co pays, out of pocket , exclusions and extras contribute to over 20K a year in out of pocket until the first nickel of O'care kicks in. Fuck that. Not to mention that the Gov gets full time, real time access to your bank account and can and will drain the last penny out to pay your monthly premium. And the IRS gets to automatically deduct from your tax return for additional overages as well as the fine.

Unless the medical system reverts to CASH with Catastrophic Insurance, it will devolve into a two tier arrangement where people of means get great care at private institutions and the rest get an aspirin. There is absolutely, without a doubt, no good reason why a doctors visit should be covered by insurance. And if doctors had to rely on the ability of patients to pay then the system would change dramatically. Concierge medical care is the future. Many doctors are going to the CASH model because they know the current situation will not hold.

We have 50 employees. Almost all of them have looked into O'care and every single one has come away saying the same thing. They get nothing for all the money it will cost. It's sad really. I know some people had hope, but government will never, ever, no matter what, make anything better. That's not what they do.
