I can't choose between 2x600w and 1x1000w

Hi friends !

I asked this question to a lot of people, they all experimented and talented but I hesitate so much.. I want to ask it to you too.

My blooming room is
220cm length and 180cm width (7.2 feet 5.9feet.
and 250cm height (8.2feet)

I will do a square around the plants to walk or a way in the middle of the room ; to cut the length in half ... It works for now

For now : I got a 2x600w hps on a light rail, with Adjust wing large
and 2x400w MH in a growbox of 150cm x 150cm

I got symptom of lack of light, in the extreme opposite of the room , so 2x600 light rail is not working... Got 80cm from apex to bulbs at the extremities

I will probably go 1x400w mh only in the growbox so I will be 2000w->1600 at maximum

I hesitate going on :
#1 : a gavita 1000w DE - in the middle of my bloom room. Manufacturer says it is perfect for 2m² so for me I think it will be more than enough
#2 : divide my 2x600 in 600 + 600 , in two spot in my room

pro for # 1 : bud density, more penetration of the light
con : people told me that having two 600 is better
approx 330$

pro for #2 : price, maybe it works better.. and I can manage apex-bulb distance more easily
con : people told me too that a gavita seems to be way more efficient.. and I will save 200w too (going 2000 to 1400 instead of 1600)
approx 120$ but more electricity , more ballast, more t° because more hps bulb

I know american people is more experienced with DE hps, with double entry, I dont know if it is worth it or not.

Please, can someone give me an advice or two?
thank you very much

Your space is ~42 square feet. 1200w is ~28w per square foot. That's only half of what you want for optimum results. Honest.

hi!!

@Jhhnn : thanks mate , but I can't go 60w/ square, this is madness for me! My electricity provider will call the police hahaha
And no, my goal is not to go "for the best of the best" with "10/10 light" but just improve my room a little bit, I dont sell weed so I cant invest in 2 or 3 gavitas for a little room like that.. plus i would pay 300$/month for all this watts

but thank you for your post and I understand that I will never reach "the optimum" ;)

@budley doright : Hi !
Thanks ! that gavita is a temptation.
When you say "ok" it means "average" or ... ?
Is this really better than classic HPS , not double ended?
thank you !

I believe if you go to Gavita website they have a handy dandy lighting configurator.
Probably all the major manufacturers have something similar.

2 stationary 600s, no light mover, your tending area is whats left of a strong 3x6 area. Run a scrog to keep your girls in the proper space (or tomato cages) trim the lowers (lollipop) and enjoy. I got better results from 3x400, than 2x600 or 1 x 1000 (wasnt in the 4x8) in a 4x8 tent personally...
Dont sacrifice environmental requirements for space/more plants.

You are only using the 2x600 on the mover in bloom, or are the 2x 400 in there also?

It is important to reach a minimum intensity for adequate growth. Not maximum, adequate. If the lights needed to fill the room cannot be afforded then the area needs to be reduced.

Poor light produces immature plants. A large amount of substandard bud is not as enjoyable as a smaller amount of quality bud. Using the existing lights with fewer plants and one half or one third the square footage will increase individual bud size and density by a huge amount.

I grow commercially at 90 watts per square foot with 3:1 ratio of LED:CMH. When using CMH alone it was 110 watts per square foot.
Adequate buds for personal use grew OK down to 50 watts per square foot but were not good enough for retail counter sales.

I can certainly appreciate that. With that in mind, I'd suggest going with cultivating only part of the room in one of the ways you mentioned, ~ half the total area. With good technique, yield over time should be more than adequate for your stated purposes, particularly using a separate veg area. Cannabis is at its very best under intense light in all ways- yield, potency, aroma, taste or you name it. Few successful growers would disagree with that.

5 lbs/year should be pretty straightforward, considerably more with advanced efforts. I can readily get a 1 lb crop or more every 4 months from 1000w in a 4x4 space just growing from seed, one crop after the other. I'm pretty lazy about it, too. Pics in my albums.

Hi everybody !

Thank you very much :)
For now I use only a adjsut a wing 2x600 hps in the bloom room (7.2*5.9 ft)
And in a different place I got a grow box for veg => (4.9*4.9ft) -> I liked to get big veg space for multiple reasons (I do outdoor too)

So I think I will change the square I grow in the flowering/bloomroom and go 20 square feet with 2x600 . Gavita will not be good for me because I cant use grow spectre on it.
Let me explain :

Now I will change my method because I will get good mother plants and clones so I will juste use one or two turboneons for mother plants and clones. Then I will put the clones under a 2*600mh (room) or 2*400 mh (box) then exchange the bulb mh->hps and I will get more space for flowering too.

Thank you so much for this advice, nobody told me to reduce the area before... :)

I can do

room : 2x400 for growth (veg) or 1x600 mh on rail -> then 1x1000 gavita
box: 1x600 mh and -> then 600hps

first case I consume only 1200 to 1600w ; and in the post # 8 it is always 2000w
