I am a dumbass (thankfully in Canada)

Well did i ever make a lot of stupid mistakes this morning, Was in a rush so tossed some nearly dry bud that was in a paper bag into my trunk (only about 6 oz) without giving it a good multi-bagging to reduce the smell and then to compound stuff didn't bother to wear my seatbelt and just after my travelling companion mentioned the strong smell of pot in the car i made a left turn in front of an unmarked cop car so surprise surprise got pulled over, my paperwork was mostly in order though i had yet to change my address on my drivers license but had changed it on my insurance (potential 110 fine for that and same issue with the ownership). So after taking my paperwork he goes to his car and another cop shows up (i do have an old conviction for manufacturing explosives so multi cop pull overs are nothing new) and a few minutes later he comes back to the passenger side and asks about the mushrooms in a bag beside my seat (they where turkey tail mushrooms that are used medicinally) but accepts my explanation and then asks how much pot i have in the car of course i say none (is in the trunk the same as in the car?) and i proceed to get a lecture about how pot is illegal even in the smallest quantities, followed by a comment about how he was pretty sure that what he was smelling was at least a few oz of cannabis rather than just leftover smell from smoking and that i really should clean out my car when i get home to get rid of the smell and that since there was no pot in plain view he was not going to search the car. He then handed me a $240 fine for no seat belt and told me to have a nice day.
Can`t believe i did so many dumb things and got away with only a fine today but it shows that being complacent about safety and security can really bite you in the ass. Thankfully over the years i have had very good luck in my many dealings with the police in my part of the world but i could have been up shits creek today had my luck not continued.

You didn't even get a ticket for the left hand turn?

Lucky:peacock: YOU!

I had a similar incident last year, no ID, rec expired, no registration and a pound of pot. Got a ticket for speeding and no CDL...was expensive, but going to jail--something I've never done!

reminders like this post, to keep your car registered and have all ID, etc...a good post!

Thanks for the reminder, I get a bit lax at times.:thank you: jpt

Hats off for not getting put in cuffs :)
We all screw up at some point, it's how we handle it that matters. Sounds like you stayed calm and used your head and minimized the consequences. Can't think of how many guys might have decided to double down and get mouthy with the cop or just panic so badly that they end up face down eating asphalt.

Never any point in getting mouthy with the cops, to be honest i have always found the police in ontario are a pretty easy going and mellow bunch and despite pulling me over more often than i like i have never found them to be disrespectful or out of line and more often than not they don't even bother to give out all the fines they could. I had one cop who pulled me over explain it this way when i did not have proof of insurance or my licence on me and had a busted headlight (though i did have a replacement bulb in the car)
"if I am an asshole and you are a asshole i give you fines and probably search the car, If your an asshole but i am not i make you come to the station within 24 hours with all your paperwork and finally if neither of us are assholes i give you a warning and leave it at that"
thankfully neither of us where assholes that night. I know a lot of people have trouble with cops and i am sure there are many power tripping assholes in that line of work but i do wonder how many of the problems that i hear about are at least partially self inflicted due to poor attitudes.

glad you leaned the easy way this time. a mistake is not a mistake if you learn from it. then it becomes a lesson.

I travel with pot, I smoke while I drive, I had some cuts in my front seat while I drove to make sure they were ok just the other day

im so fuckin sick and tired of worrying about cops its not even funny, fuckem they don't even exist on my radar and a lot of them don't even really want to be bothered and i get it. any job that you have where you deal with ppl and trying to help themis fucking annoying and no one can ever pay anyone enough; teachers, nurses, cops and a few others fields are the shittiest because you have to deal with ppl and most if not all ppl fucking suck deep down

you try to hold these fucks accountable for their education, accountable for their health and accountable for their safe being/ general welfare and most just want to tell you to go fuck yourself. I see the stress on these ppls faces every time they stop me. most times I mention I work in a hospital and they just end up leaving me alone.

last stop I had was on a highway at a general stop/check point; I didn't have my seatbelt on, my DL was suspended (unbeknownst to me for a ticket from 2010) and my inspection was a year old and what did he do? give me a ticket for the seatbelt because I had a bag of blood specimens in the front seat with me coming from an AIDS facility on my way to drop them off at the lab and he said, and I quote: "uh man, that's ok I don't want any parts of that shit"

I just drive man, I just fuckin drive
