You CAN grow plants in pea gravel...but it's REALLY heavy...
Did I say it was heavy?
It also doesn't hold anything...no nooks and crannies for goodies like water, air, and nutes to hang out. That's why people pay for hydroton. It's not that expensive...look around.
Just go to the pet shop and buy some "zoo med hydroballs." They're hydroton marketed to lizard owners to create a hydroconductive substrate in their lizard tanks.
ill have to check that out, cos if i cant source some reasonibly priced i think ill just have to go a nft setup as ive got everything i need for that. cheers for the tip cannabi
Hi. There is a new type of growing medium out there that is called "SURE TO GROW" For Hydro Growing. It is extremely light weight (like the weight of cotten balls). It grows and sustains excellent root systems. It replaces all the other growing mediums that are so heavy and hard to work with. No more slimy Rock Wool or Dusty Clay Pellets. No more having to prepare your medium before you use it. As well,I suggest you search "You Tube" and the internet for "Sure To Grow" videos and articles that explain how it works. Also, the cost is very reasonable.
