hydrohut still off gassing?

I'm looking to create a new veg room that is around 3" by 3". My only criteria is that is something manageable weight wise. I am a girl and it is impossibly hard to lug arond the heavy cab I made about six years ago. I always think I won't have to move it but I end up having to every six months or so. The cab I have now has served me well but is kind of falling apart.

I like the idea of the hydro hut but I heard it off gasses. Does it still have this problem?

thanks!

Hi there thaitanic,

I believe hydrohut recalled all of the 'off gassing' tents, however maybe you should look into another brand? I've been happy with my DR80 so far.

I'm guessing they got hurt badly enough by that whole fiasco, they and all other tent makers are going to be more careful for a while at least. Tents are over-rated though, and I have yet to see one that I consider adequately light-proof. Why not just make your own enclosure. You'll gain from the experience and save money. Things like black and white poly, roll mylar, etc. work great for flexible enclosures, but masonite and paneling can make fairly light cabinets too. Just because it's wood doesn't mean it must be 2x4 lumber and 3/4" plywood. A friend of mine built his out of 1/2 inch OSB, 2x4, and treated deck planking for the bottom. He could have reduced the weight of that cabinet by 3 times at least just by switching to paneling, and even more by using lighter boards. If you can work with metal at all, aluminum can be pretty great too.

Good advice "magiccannabus" - Why buy something from overseas when you can make it here cheaper? Tents are VASTLY overrated for many reasons. Building a new cabinet that is lightweight and easily moved would be the best investment you could make. Much more secure, and less obvious when someone sees it.

Super old thread, I know.

Still have a couple old HydroHuts from the off gassing era that have been used for various things over the years, grow related an otherwise.

For the last 5 years one has been my drying room, and the other has served as a room for my cloner. The cloner has only one 2' t5 over it and has been pumping out clones for years, inside the tent. Recently I needed more space for veg and the cloner was empty so I moved a 6 lamp 4' t5 into the tent. About a week later that old chlorotic look came creeping back, I thought I was under feeding...and all my cole crop seedlings died that were getting ready to go out to the veggie garden.

So, looks like the tents toxicity is triggered by the heat and its still as much of a passive plant killer than ever. New tents are arriving shortly.
