HydroHut / HomeBox users: Where to put the fan?

B

Boxy Brown

iv never used an oscillating fan because there is enough air flow just from the vortex that runs 24/7

4" vortex and 2-6" fans run 24/7 in this mini. a layer of hydrotron or perlite on top of your soil might help with evaporation. Power.. uh. Speed, uh "hi", and they are stationary. :joint:

Thanks all for the responses.

stretchpup, I like how those fans are hanging from the ceiling. My SilverStar is too large for me to hang fans like that, even small ones. Should have gotten a smaller DayStar AC reflector instead. (Anyone in the Bay Area wanna trade?)

cobo, how are the plants nearest to the fan doing?

Are you holding the Vortex up there with just one Bungee Cord???

Just trying to see where to put my CanFan. Just threw it on top of it yesterday when I got. What did you do with that extra material on that duct?

cheers

if you canget a little clip fan that you hang from some chains or cord like a lamp, then you move it as the plants grow...you dont want it blowing on the plants, it should be blowing over them, or youll end up with wind burnt plants.
Instead of an oscillating fan, you could hang a couple of little axial fans from elastics and point them in different directions, that would stir the air up plenty and not take up the floor space that the stand for a floorstanding(im assuming thats what ur talking about) oscillating fan would.

That's exactly what's been happening on some plants that were too close to the fan. I've been reading, though, about how you should blow through your canopy than just over them, and I noticed this made a difference in clearing up the transpiration wet marks from leaves when blowing through the canopy.

Right now I have it set to run for an hour, every 3 hours (1 hour on, 2 hours off) since my timer has only 8 settings. Otherwise I might have it set for something like 15 minutes on, 30 off or so.

Yeah you got the idea. Problem was finding space for all those fans, not to mention the possibility of additional noise from multiple motors vs. one motor. I'll shop around this weekend or next at Target or Wal-Mart.

Thanks again all.

no probs mate...
I do remember someone when i 1st started surfing forums for grow info, this buy got a showerfan and made a manifold with 2 inch pipes coming off it(cant remember how many) he had the pipes distibuted under the canopy spaced evenly at different heights, with a couple above the canopy, the showerfan didnt bring in outside air, just distibuted the inside air around.
That probably owuldnt be any use to you but it gives you an idea of how there are different ways of acheiving things.

Wow!!! :yoinks: Great idea! Great location for the fan! You have a nearly identical fan as me, and a nearly identical hut (if not identical: HomeBox XL) as me. I'm gonna have to copy you.

Only thing I'm afraid of is that my SilverStar is so large that it'll block a lot of the wind.

Yea I thought that my daystar reflector might block wind but iv found that most of the wind is coming from the outer part of the fan and because of this a lot of it is reflected off the walls of the homebox and is able to get around.

 Hey Boxy Brown, I noticed that the corner construction is different on your hut (thick black plastic), it looks sturdy. Where did you purchase your hut-please give details.
