hydrofarm sunburst -need help with enclosed ballast-please
hello every one i had to post here concerning this product, the hydrofarm sunburst. now i just bought this wonderfull toy unpacked it, threw my 250 hortilux blue in.and bam she was running!

now it took a minute too boot up light, slowly it got brighter.now the thing im having second thoughts about this bad boy is the enclosed ballast.it was prety loud a while booting up and slowly got a little quiter a little.after tinkerin here and ther with the hood i moved the reflective around and it got quiter.
now althou it got quiter it still seems a little loud, i dunno y. i have a 400 wtt
ballast and it hums very softly,the sunburst hums kinda loud i can hear it almost any were in da house.so i ask the any icers have a hydrofarm sunburst please
let me no how loud the ballast is.i just might be trippin and all but it just seems 2 loud.well thanks fello icers i patiently await any 1s response.

Hey mikey-GS-!

I had a 600 from hydrofarm that was alot louder then my 1000watt MH witch is my loudest ballast. It was in a hood enclosure and I ended up making it remote. I put it in a blank ballast box and it ran quiter but still quite loud. I think its the brand of trasnformer they use. I ended up selling mine but you could try to make the ballast remote and mabye sink the trasnformer with some kind of silacone glue. I rember they had this shit at the hydro store that was rated for like 200F+ to glue ballasts down and minimze vibrations. Hope this helps!

hmmm well that kinda sucks and all cauase i just got and i was like hmm its kinda loud? well WeeD22MaN thx again for your info and time this really helped. im guessing like you said it may the transformer they use but ill ask the doods at the hydro store whats the dealie.ill prob end up taking this gizmo back if it continues to bother.i really wanted this hydrfarm SB but i might have to settle for a basic hood a and ballast.btw do they make 250 watt ballasts??

NP! As for 250 watt ballast they might but you can buy a 80$ 250watt HPS Security light and another 20$ in wires and plugs and Take it appart and make your own remote light with it. I find the security ballasts are quite quiet as iv built 3 or 4 remote grow lights for buddys on budgets with em.

sounds awesome WeeD22MaN ill research into this .

now i went ahead and called the hydro store today and told about how loud the hydrofarm was and he told me it was normal it vibrates and hums like i explained.
so i asked its normal huh, well what can i do about it, he said i should go to home depot and buy some insulation for the ballast, he said it was rated somethin somethiin heat restince.so i dunno i think im a return this item, i so dearly need this equipment.and today i noticed the ballast smeeled funky like overheatin or somethin and it turned off by itself.now it takes a long time for the light 2 turn on?wtf this blows.

im thinkin i got a refurbished nonsense or some of the likes my only options are
3
1: return hydrofarm and get the floralux
2:get a 250 watt ballast and hood.
3rd: WeeD22MaN option.

250 Watt HPS street light 48$ on ebay.

I found that on e-bay for 48$ looking at it you could easly make it a remote grow light. They have new and used ones and that pic looks like a fresh ballast setup.

mikey i got the 400 hps sunburst and that bitch is loud. if the power cord is connected to a strip then make sure its plugged in to the closest plug where the wire comes in to the strip. it sounds weird but i had it in other plugs and it barely comes on. Or just plug into the wall directly to make sure the thing still works. I would have bought a sun systems remote system if i knew about this shit.

For the noise i put a few pounds of weight over the rear and it stops the hum from being so loud. a 2 lb. weight would be cool. it drove me bat shit without the weight on the light to stop the buzz
