Noticed some issues with this timer and replaced it . Curious of how it functions, I ripped it apart . The rechargeabale nickel metal hydride seems to have exploded!

Did not exceed watts or ohms. Powered 2 , 600w digis.

I lost count of how many of timers I have had fail, melt ,smoke ect....yeehaw.. and I never used more juice than they were supposed to handle..if its a decent setup I like intermatic waterheater timers ..haven't had one fail but their not digital

It seems the charging circuit failed to stop charging after the battery was full. That caused the battery to overcharge/overheat, and the battery failed as it was designed to. Not exactly an explosion but probably a good POP.

If you are running 120v, you are definitely hitting the top limits with these simple timers. Usually you go by the 80% mark. 2 600's at 120v is 12 amps. And those timers are only rated for 15 amps. Unless this is a 240v timer and you are running 240. Doesn't look like it however. And you are correct that some companies like sunlight sup. are recommending that you NOT USE these kind of timers with digital ballasts.
