Hydro Electric Turbines

Was wondering if anyone had any links to any small turbine kits out there for home power? Been searching here and on google and only came up with a couple of artciles for small stuff. Just trying to see if there is anything out there affordable. If i was to buy a new place with a creek or small river. Just curious to what is out there.
Thanks,
BG

Amazing.

Just this afternoon I was wondering I if could muster enough hydroelectirc power to operate the grow.
Steam and or running water could be had and not use as much electric as a grow eh.

Or how about placing a Stirling engine above a grow light/deflector?

That sort of thing could run secondary hardware!

Thing is, I've a budding disagreement with being pro-environment and running an indoor grow.

The two are not going hand in hand here...yet.

Thanks everyone for the help. Just been wondering about this, because i've been looking at some real estate and i've noticed streams on almost all of them. Most of them have nice water flow and it would be a shame not to use that source. Some of you already know i'll be using a generator also, but if i could use a turbine to power the house itself. Fuck paying the power company any money. Thanks again, and i'll do some read and get back to this thread. I was thinking a small paddle wheel type deal. Just got to figure out how the regulate the power.
Thanks again,
BG

PS, I'm looking to make AC power and not DC. I don't like having batteries around.

Even if you were not able to power your grow from hydroelectric turbines (unsteady current damaging digital ballasts?), you could definately offset your electricity use by using this technology.

Considering you'll probably get a lot of sun too, you could think about solar as a secondary power source. Trouble is, all this renewable energy isn't free, ya still got to buy and renew all your kit. Even with their profits added on top, energy companies can start to look cheap when you do all the maths.

Um.. I don't know how to tell you all this nicely, but...

YOU SMOKE TOO MUCH DOPE.

Check out reality. There is a reason we are in a energy crisis and it's not because perpetual motion devices actually work.

If you want to get off the grid you have one reasonable option. To get a home power generator. They run on natural gas, diesel and gas and they can easily power you home off the grid or function as backup generators when the power fails.

Wind and solar power is no really feasible for the high demands of growing. You're talking about like 2000 dollars to produce 250 watts of power plus you only get then when it's windy. I dunno, but that seems like a horrible investment.

For that much you could probably buy the home generator system with a battery bank and be ready to leave the grid forever. Not just 250 watts but thousands of reliable power.

It's just that the current renewable energy technologies are for the most part not practical at all. Solar panels are a waste of money which if you lucky might eventually pay for themselves in 20 years, which is also somewhere around their lifespan. That's why you don't see a lot of people using these options, because for the most part none of them are worth the cost of buying, installing and maintaining.

Wind power is superior to solar power, but all in all none of them put out a reasonable amount of power for their up front cost.

If you want to be more green then instead of buying into more power just reduce your power usage with more efficient devices and smarter electrical usage. This will pay off much faster and cost you very little.

If you haven't already upgraded to CFL lights you should do that.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was just wondering if there was a affordable unit and what the output of these units where. I followed some link and reads some info. For you members that don't know. I'll be running a 21kW diesel generator and was just "WONDERING" if it would be worth it. Thanks for all your help. I'll just be sticking with the genset.
Take care,

maybe you could grow and process your own bio fuel to run that generator some of the time.

Hey GMT, funny you should say that. I've been looking into that and once i'm all settle in my new house. I'm going to hit up the local business and see if i can get free oil from them. They pay to have it hauled off and if i can get a steady or some what steady follow. I've found a couple of good kits out there. I will go that route for sure. So much better for the motor and air. Thanks for the post and input. I'll make sure to start a good thread once i get going. Give members the real 411 on someone running a genset and other things to go with it. Fuel, Bio-Fuel, sound proofing, etc.
Thanks,
BG
