HVAC expert needed...

Okay so i recently purchased a friedrich breeze mini split.. 24K BTU. Installation looked easy, pre charged lines etc. So my problem is when passing the line set threw my 3in hole in the wall, the lineset got slightly twisted... Not like a sharp bend or kink just twisted. Im on my mobile now but will post pics up within an hour or 2 so you will have a better idea as of what im talking about.
I called tech support and he told me to just fire it up and if the copper lines are damaged that the unit would heat up and cause the breaker to trip. Also told me to take a look at the copper lines to see if they were damaged... But i guess I dont exactly know what "damage" to look for... Any pro's chime in? Like I said will get pics up in a few. Thanks

Hey man, this is my nightmare. I need to order this same AC soon was hoping seeing you install it would give me the motivation to get it ordered.

I'll see if I can get Galahad or Puscifer over here. Both have mini split experience.

Thanks man... Def need some input to ease my mind. I feel as if I just
made an $1800 fuck up!
I would say order it man... This was simply a user error. My partner is mad sloppy and reckless and when i told him to feed it threw the whole he basically just jammed it threw which I believe is what caused this. Overall I still stand by this unit... Seems real easy to set up so far.

As long as you didn't kink the copper you'll be ok..
If the line set just twisted inside of the insulation you're ok.
I would expose the copper to be absolute though.
At the very worst, you'd cut the kink out after shutting the 2 valves off, then repairing the lines..Preferbly with solder..I would have someone with A/C gauges double check the freon, because you'll lose some if you have to repair the line. May have to put some back..
I do furnace and A/C installs daily..I've repaired and replaced a lot of line sets..No biggie.

Tyga you need to cut the insulation back to expose the bad spot so we can see it. Can't tell much from here with it covered. Thing about rolled copper is that once you bend it ether by straitening or bending you CAN NOT keep bending. It will kink and causing lots of head aches. At this point if it's not kinked I would suggest you get a tubing bender to make the bends you need. But a pic of the copper would help.
As far as the mistake goes you could just get a new line set.

From those 3 pics I don't see a kink..
I see the outer layer off and the black layer too,but whats the silver stuff in pic #2.
Any way to get one layer deeper to the shiney copper??
Still doesn't looked kinked though..if its not I'd secure the line set to the wall.
Galahad had a great suggestion with the tubing bender..If you need to do any more bends.

Thanks guys... Seemed that the next layer was some sort of metal type sheild? Not sure if I should try busting into it or just try to fire her up and hope for the best. The unit actual came with a line set bender so I plan on using that on any future bends that may need to be made.

Fire it up,
It should automaticly shut of if it senses a loss in freon pressure somewhere in the system.
I think you'll be fine.

That line set is a new 1 on me also. Looks like a flexible shield to prevent kinking. I would say hook that mutha up and let her bump :D
What model and where did it come from? Would like to find out more about that line set.

I'm a tech... The lineset looks fine to me. I will say that those quick connect precharged lineset are notorious for leaking at the brass unions. Try to install the unit in a location where you have access to those fittings for future maintenance.

Luxuries of a Mini-Split (Ductless Split System) Ductless Split Air Conditioner & Heat Pump products offer wide versatility in solving your cooling and heating requirements. The Indoor unit (evaporator) is mounted inside the room, and usually goes very unnoticeable. It is connected to the outdoor unit (condenser) via refrigerant lines & inter-unit wiring through a 3-1/2" opening in the wall. Since no ductwork is required, installation is simple, fast & efficient. There is no need to use up window space or cut large openings in existing walls, which could undermine the integrity of your structure, and even pose security risks. Since the Rotary compressor is located in the outdoor unit, compressor operating noise is virtually eliminated from the indoor. The indoor unit has been uniquely designed to provide Whisper Quiet operation while delivering comfort throughout the room(s). In addition, rotary compressors provide efficient, powerful cooling at the lowest noise levels in the industry.
Installation & Warranty Info AJ Madison recommends the installation of a Ductless Split System to be done by a trained and qualified HVAC technician with the proper knowledge and background. A trained technician will be able to judge the best location for the air handling (evaporator) unit and also the correct size for the area it has to cool. For assistance with all your technical needs please contact our technical department at [email protected].
Note: AJ Madison will only finalize a Mini-Split (Ductless Split System) purchase with an authorized HVAC Technician. Should you experience an issue during the installation or the initial startup of the unit please do not contact the manufacturer. You should have the technician that installed the units contact either AJ Madison or the manufacturer. We cannot accept any service or warranty calls from anybody but a licensed HVAC technician. We have full technical support team available to help you throughout the installation process.
AJ Madison, Inc. cannot be held liable for improper installation and operation of any product purchased from our company. Should a warranty issue arise where parts will need to be replaced, an installation receipt will be required along with your AJ Madison sales receipt. Failure to provide a receipt or invoice may result in the warranty not being honored.
Note: Warranties on mini split air conditioners only include parts and do not include labor. The licensed HVAC Technician who installs your air conditioner should always provide you with a labor warranty (preferably for a full year to compliment the manufacturers' parts warranty).

Nope. I called AJ and was told the breeze units are the exception to the rule. No HVAC tech needed for install for warranty purposes.

Was so glad to hear that I went ahead and ordered one.:woohoo:
