Hunting for the QUietest Ballast

howdy.

i've had the ballast in my grow closet and i'm making an effort to reduce the heat. the only other choice is to put it in my bedroom. my current one hums too much.

i run 1000 watt HPS. i've found several ballasts that say they are quiet but quiet is relative.

anyone out there that can suggest a truly quiet 1000 watt ballast?

thank you

Digital ballasts are silent and work great and supposedly save electricity and bulb life.

yes the digitals r the new option for ya!!

u could power down and open up ur ballast and see if something is loose like the xformer mounting hardware, just be careful the capacitor can bite ya hard!! you might just need to tighten some hardware!!

BUZZ!

Digi Ballasts are DEAD silent. You cant hear a thing! Too bad you need a 1000w ballast cus this site called www.HIDHUT.com sells some pretty cheap (and high quality from what i hear) ballasts (as of this date, they sell digi ballasts up to 600w).

Digital are the quietest ( Lumatek) but I would go no higher than 600w for awhile. Quality is not there yet.

thanks guys.

i have found that the digitals claim to be quietest. i only found one 1000 watt out there. the lumatec, as bermyboy mentioned. it was $550 or so. DAMN. but if i want quiet i might have to pay that. i'm doing more reading today, tomorrow, the next day...

i have read negative stuff about the 1000 watt digital and am leary of new tech. just like video games they toss them out there and then fix them.

i'd love to do two 600 watt units but my room is only 5 foot x 5.5 ft x 11 ft. the 1000 watt makes it pretty hot. and 2 600s would be too much. i think.
in addition, that would be alot more money then i was thinking of spending too cool down the room.

decisions, decisions.

R u kidding, go with the 2 600 watters. Trust me, you will be happier in the end. You'll have that much more pot that you can give me ;)

If ppl can safely use a 600 w light in a c24, then 2 of them in ur space is by far not too much. Keep in mind 600 watter lights are more efficient than 1000w in terms of light output per watt. So 2 600w lights would add a lot more weight to ur buds.
