I found this in the new this morning, many levels of weird and a lot of questions.

Hunter S Thompson's widow plans to clone and sell his marijuana stash

The widow of legendary journalist and hell-raiser Hunter S. Thompson is working on cloning the writer's personal marijuana stash so it can be sold on the mass market.

Anita Thompson, who married Hunter in 2003 two years before his suicide, said in a post on her Facebook page that she had found a legal method to extract the DNA from the author's personal marijuana and hashish stash that she had saved for 12 to 15 years.

"I am in the process of making the strains available to those who would like to enjoy the authentic Gonzo strains in legal states," she said in the post. "I am looking forward to making the authentic strains available in legal states to support the farm and the scholarships."

In an article in The Aspen Times this week, she added that she is currently in talks with a company about cloning, growing and selling the cannabis.

Anita Thompson, who took over ownership of her late husband's 42-acre Owl Farm property in Colorado this year, told the newspaper that proceeds from the sales would go towards renovating the property and turning into a private museum and writer's retreat.

Interesting article... Im not one for celebrity strains and hype trains, but that sounds pretty cool, about what she wants to do with his/their cannabis & property. Also, didnt Rez name one of his crosses Gonzo, or something? Maybe Im mistaken...

I saw this yesterday as well.. I knew it would pop up in here.... will be interested to see what comes of it.... Hunter must've had a private grower that kept it all alive after he did himself in... its been a few years now hasn't it? who knows how old the strains would actually be.. if its clone only.. they could be decades old now

Yes rez did have a fee hunter s inspired names.

By the sounds of it they are extracing dna from old buds and hash and somehow bringing this dna to life I'm living plants.

I could see if they see aid they were going to use bag seeaideeds found in his weed, this brings up a lot of questions. I assume who ever was talking about it didn't quite understand what they were saying.

Sounds a lot like BS to me. It will be interesting to see really what is to say the weed he was seeaideedseemoking was any better than what's out there today.

Reservoir seeds had gonzo #1 which was skunk #1 basic 5 hybrid x Williams wonder

And gonzo #2 which was skunk#1 basic 5 hybrid x hindu kush.

Neither had any relation to Hunter S except for their HST inspired names.

Journalist Hunter S. Thompson, who so memorably wrote about drifting through Las Vegas with a “car full of marijuana and head full of acid,” is destined for immortality of the cannabis variety. Marijuana strains, of the same stuff he enjoyed while he was alive, will be officially labeled with his Gonzo brand. The plants will be cloned or hybridized from six strains that he smoked before his suicide in 2005, according to his widow Anita Thompson.

“I have found a legal method to extract the DNA from Hunter’s personal marijuana and hashish,” Thompson wrote in her Facebook post. She said she saved the plant material for 12 to 15 years. “I am in the process of making the strains available to those who would like to enjoy the authentic Gonzo strains in legal states.”

even more interesting.... I read about how they did that with 800 year old squash seeds found on a burial site.... soon that heirloom squash that was enjoyed by folks 800 years ago will be available in seed form

A supposed connisseur back in the day. Towards the end he was said to have been fond of a strain known as BinLaden. According to hand me down knowledge from the old woody creek tavern.

From all I know, that statement reads as pure bullshit, but luckily there are people around here who know far more than me on the technical side, so hopefully they can pop in and add their views...

Unless she has viable seeds or live plant material with live dna, this is 100% BS.

That's what I pretty much thought, she probably just scooped up a few ogs, will make a few half assed hybrids and slap his name on it like B real and the list of other celebrities that have branded someone else's work.

I didn't think you could tissue culture dead material. I mean what's she going to spend a few million to recreate strains jurassic park style.

I'm curious what strains and if it's worth preserving. I kind of think it may just be the most recent bags of smoke he purchased. If that's the case it's a strain already available and likely in the aspen area.

Personally I would hope smoking a strain named after Hunter would be able to provide a gonzo experience. But I expect it will be much like strains named dmt or acid and be a major letdown. Id love a strain that actually earned a name like hunter or Lsd.
