I recently got a humidifier and after about a month i notice that some green stuff is growing inside the tank. I only use pure water, why has this happened? How can I get rid of it?
cheers
how often are you refilling? if your room has a natural humidity of 70% and your humidifier is set at 50% then it's just gonna sit there doing nothing and build up moisture. the fact that you have green build makes me think your humidifier is sitting for 2-3 days before you need to refill. Set up a dehuey that brings the room down to 60-70 and a humidifier that brings it above 50%.
To clean it use hydrogen peroxide. Non toxic and on a chemical level it breaks down to water and oxygen. Denture cleaners that come in tablet form work well for cleaning anything that needs to be clean and safe from chemicals and they are cheap.
To the OP, many, if not most microalgaes and cyanobacteria need very little in the way of nutrients to live and even flourish. Light and moisture are enough, and not even that much light in many instances.
