Great while smoking a joint, I watched the mom and dad trading off duties. Got to watch the chicks eating, so cool. I see them circling in the air from my house. Gotta be somewhere on the Mad River.

Hello all,

She is feeding her chicks at this moment....way kewl. They do not look very old at all, she was covering them up a few minutes ago before they woke up and she started to feed them.

Ain't nature kewl.

nice...when I was just watching, only saw the eagle sitting in its nest by itself. After a few minutes the eagle started shifting its weight around and then stood up a bit and I saw a chick underneath it. I didn't know that birds sat on their chicks, thought they just sat on the eggs. Guess the little tikes can't generate enough heat yet. Learn something new every day!

Al, very cool link, eagles are so amazing to watch, whether they are flying or just sitting there. Thanks for sharing it...theres a eagle cam around here, had a contest to name the birds, it was pretty neat.

Give me six months, an infinite supply of sticks n twigs, and my two bare hands, and i still wouldn't be able to make a nest like that

What are bald eagles' nests made of, and how big are they?

They are made of interwoven branches, with fillers like grass, hay, etc. The eagles repair and add to the structures every year, and they generally do not discard any remains of prey, those become part of the nest. The largest nest recorded so far was 2.7 metres (8.9 feet) in diameter and 3.6 metres (11.8 feet) high; its estimated weight was almost 2 metric tons. Most nests are about 1.5 to 1.8 metres (4.9 to 5.9 feet) in diameter and 0.7 to 1.2 metres (2.3 to 3.9 feet) tall.

Thank's for posting this Al.. Eagles are awsome to watch in nature! I was steelhead fishing on a river in the pacific n/w , and got to watch a big eagle swoop down on a smaller eagle and take a nice sized trout away from him/her! I will never forget seeing that.. It was awsome!!!

What the hell is that terrible noise coming from at the link? Sounds like some machine ready to break down.....

The birds and the bees do it....up for your consideration is some eagle love...go to the 5 minute mark to catch all the action:

Damn...female eagles sure do make it easy on male eagles!

I keep a tab open on them but forget from time to time, when the dad comes in screeching it startles the crap out of me. I haven't heard machine but the mom and dad make some strange sound.

Edit - ah just heard it ...sounds like a boat motor of jet ski? maybe a chainsaw something like that.

It's been a nice sunny winter here on the Ca. coast.
Could use more rain though, but the eagles are probably loving this weather.
