i am growing ina basement with low humidity (35-55%) but the nighttime temps can drop to 55 or so and day time can rocket back up to 75-78f

obvisouly this cannot be good. any ideas of what i can expect? its going to get worse with the weather growing colder. it will prolly never get below 52f

small space heater to keep the temp differential to approximately 15-20 should be fine.

This is the indoor grow season ;)

It sounds like my basement. My solution is to run the lights at night. The basement still gets cool during the day when the lights are out but it's not nearly as drastic.

nope , all the furnaces heat is pushed up into the house . unless its a boiler they put off pretty good amount of radiant heat .

like in plain site said, a small ceramic heater in your room during lights off is a good idea . facing away from the plants if at all possible .

You could also add a vent on your trunk right where it exits the furnace to get some heat down there. Or split into any of the other heat runs that go upstairs. I have one of the main trunk and an additional line ran into my grow area but they both get sealed in the winter as I only need them for AC in the summer.

If you just leave it as is you really shouldn't have any problems with the plants. If anything you might get some real nice colors show up depending on strains.

I can't say that you will or won't with certainty because my swings aren't as drastic as yours. Right now my room temp is at 62F during lights off and it stays that way almost all winter. January and February I'll see high 50's. Lights on temps vary from 76 to 84 or so depending on the weather. In the years I've been growing here I've never had stunted growth. If you're in soil make sure your pots aren't on the cold floor though as that will surely have a negative impact in my experience.

Adding a heat duct in the basement is very easy if you have forced air and your wife probably wouldn't even know you did it. :)

you can get a small personal heater (desk top style) really cheap at walmart, i got mine for $7 and over a period of 30 minutes it raises the ambient temp of the room from 65f to 72F and will stay about that

Lights are on night time, 8 PM to 8 AM standard time. In winter a small space heater on a timer comes on during lights out and the air extraction fan shuts off. I'm considering swapping out the space heater for heating mats under the plants.

Open or closed system? If open what's your airflow in cfm through the room? How many watts in what size space? You need to provide more info IMO.

I used to run 4,800 watts in an 18' x 8' x 6' high space with 1,200 cfm flowing through. No matter how cold it was outside, even sub zero, the room stayed at 77F within a degree lights on. Rain, snow or fog outside and always like a fresh Spring day in the grow space. For clarification while the capacity was 1,200 cfm I had the intake fans on thermostats while the exhaust fan was always running.

This is the indoor grow season

CLOSED TENT, 4INCH inline pulling through a 4x12 phresh.

passive intake through two (2) small 5x14 mesh window near the bottom. 600hps in nonaircooled sealedhood. temps have been low at 60 and high at 82 the past couple days....it will soon be getting cooler outside which might bring lows to 55 and highs to around 75or76.

i am now having 55lows and 73-74 highs....one critical has turned purple and the diesels and starting to darken. the fan leaves anyway, buds look great.

am i going to run into any problem. i am in a 3x3 with a 200cfm pulling through a 175 filter. hood is not currently being aircooled. its been reallly cool here...like in the low thirties high 20 outside.
