Any on here have a High Tech Garden Supply brand ballast....I guess it's there house brand. Would you reccommend it? Have heard pretty good things about it, just making sure....It's best price I've seen on the net

don't have it but hear they are good. that is HTG's. they rate it as good, they rate the agrostar ballast, which they also sell as better.

Yeah I checked out their site earlier...The agrostar is $100 more.....If the HTG ballast can get me through 2 years, I'd be happy, hopefully I will want to upgrade by then

think i'm going with the agro, maybe even the coolstar, it's electro mag. not sure if i can run CMH off that 1 though....HTG rates their ballast as good, agro as better and coolstar as best. i want to do everything right and get whatever is best/reliable/quiet...
is this ur first grow? HPS or CMH? how many plants?

Ive grown several times before...Currently vegging 9 plants right now(hoping for 4 fems) Vegging under 4 x 24w T5 HO....My first time vegging under T5's....Ive never seen such tight internodes before......When I get my 250, Im gonna use the T5's as supplemental lighting in the flower room and use 2 more T5's do veg, a perpetual harvest of every 2 month's or so......I wil try the CMH eventully, maybe next grow

I've got the HTG Supply brand ballast, 400 watt HPS, and so far it won't fire my 400 watt CMH. I have a replacement CMH coming and will let you know if that one works. Also, I have ordered the HTG Supply 400w HPS Kit for another ballast (not a HTG) I had that crapped out on me 3 weeks ago. When assembled, I will let you know if it was the CMH bulb that didn't work, or the HTG Supply ballast that wouldn't fire the CMH.

Cheers,
Fiskars

damn..agrostar is looking better for me even more. a ballast shounld NOT blow after a year. i have a dual mag ballast on my fish tank running 500W double ended MH, running 6 years straight, no prob. a ballast should last years.

Definitly let me know if it fires the CMH works in the HTG ballast when you get it.............Yeah Vin I agree with you, the agrostar IS looking better every minute, hopefully I can get a few positive responses on these....I just want it too last me at least 2 years, I'll probably want to update to a better light by then

my 400 watt hps magnetic core ballast from HTG fires my CMH all the time and I have no problems what so ever. IT is a great piece of equipment. Especially for the price.

Awesome to hear Jack!!! Did you get the Agrostar or their own brand? Their own ballasts are at an unbelieveable price

I am using the HTG brand ballast. No bells or whistles just what you need and it works great. ;) Goin to buy another one so I can run 2 400 watt CMHs on the next grow probably with the same amount of plants just hoping for more yield with the better light coverage. ;)

Yeah I'm not looking for any bells or whistles either, just want something that will last me 2 years when I'm sure I'll want to upgrade by then....I am looking at the 250, which I will supplement another 96w of T5 goodness....Will change out too a CMH bulb on my next grow

My HTG 400w is starting her third year now. While there has been upgrades all around her. If I was in the market for a "new" ballast I sure would check them out again.

I have 2 of their ballasts that work fine! Sometimes I've heard about their stuff having problems, but they're always happy to replace it.

not many using the agrostar....? now i can't decide....agian, HTG brand or agrostar for CMH...? i never thought i would change my mind so many times on everything. first the cab, then to hut, then from fan to fan to fan. now got that covered, next and last is lighting/ballast.

HTG ballasts are a great value for the money. For the money that is, good for a beg. or someone who needs a lil more light. I have a 400 watt hps by them and a 400 watt switchable by sunleaves. Both seems the same, great yeilds off both.

My 2 cents

Its a great value!! If it can last me 2 years it's done its job 10x over...All the money you save from growin your own....I harvested 5 oz's last early september with my 400, I did start 8 seeds a few weeks ago under 4 x 24w T5 HO, just waiting to get my light now, they are gettin crowded(growing IS the most addictive thing about this plant) I am going to be using a smaller light 250hps/cmh eventully + 96w of T5 HO for flowering, yet much effiecent set up, im planning on a perpetual harvest of every 2 months my myself

I have 2 HTG 400w Ballasts. They both worked out of the box, but could not fire 1 of 2 CMH bulbs. I returned the bulb and Advancedlighting said it fired in 10 seconds. So the HTG ballast is known to not have the strongest Ignitor, but it does work. Plus I got the new bulb under warranty, and these come with a 3 year warranty so I would purchase again. Cheapest Ballast on the net, and comes with 3 year warranty.

Check the Top left of the picture, that is ballast duck taped into the box it came with
