HPS to LED

Hello All,

Looking at going from 600w hps to LED in my flower tent. My two reasons for this are power and heat. Living in socal with expensive power sucks, my jan bill went from $55 last year to $250 bucks this year! so i'm trying to reduce my power footprint as much as possible. I'm using a first gen mars 300 for veg in a 3x3 and its awesome!

My flower tent is kinda an odd size ( 4-Feet 11-Inch by 2-Feet 7-Inch) so i'm leaning towards a Mars Hydro Reflector 144x5 or two MARSII 400. Another option i came across was the Advanced Platinum Series P450. heard good things about both brands. Trying to keep this around $500 bucks total. whatcha all think?

Side note: i do not want to do DIY at this point, almost every post i see says go DIY with COB's...

thanks all!

I have been hearing more and more people really digging their LED lights. They have come along way quickly that's for sure. I was reading about one that had 10 watt diaodes, jeez that's a far cry from the one watters from a few years back. Going to experiment with them some this summer I think.

@Socal sounds like your are on the right track, less power and less heat is good. Keep us posted on what you decide.

The cool kids are running Cree COBs, sometimes Vero from Bridgelux.
COB = Chips On Board, a bunch of LEDs in parallel and serial in one yellow disk. The yellow is phosphorous coating blue emitting diodes which yields various shades of white.

Lots of DIY or buy from somebody like tastyled.

I went with Area 51 and am satisfied. You can roll your own COB for less money. Plenty of info on that here and other sites.

I am surprised that people still consider mars, which is not designed for cannabis, basically pure junk. Lots of bad comments all over the net - early burn out and zero customer service. You have to pay to ship your light back and forth

Amare Technologies panels are designed by a cannabis grower, specifically for cannabis

Great products, great warranty
