HPS Reflector

Well folks, this is what I did tonight. Made a reflector out of a cheap mailbox (15 bucks) for one of my used parking garage HPS lights lights I got. I picked this up from an old OG tip on the DIY sticky. It sure didn't come out as good as the one used in the DIY thread but it'll do da trick. Still needs some work. Need to paint the inside flat white, and replace the 3/4" fasteners with some 1/4"ers. Took me a couple hours. I need 3 more, so the theory would be those will each come out better than the last... but don't bet on it.

Quick question - the parking garage light had a metal cup around the bulb socket. I left it off when I attachged the ceramic socket to the end piece. Would that be any kinda problem ya think?

do you have a rivet gun? might look a little cleaner and may go together faster. As long as its cheap and gets the job done - its all good in my book. A for the effort!

Was the fixture sealed? The cup might be a moisture/critter guard. The hood looks good. Flat ceiling white latex reflects very well. Flat white spray enamel would probably be easier and stick to the metal better than latex.

Thanks dudes!

Here we go:

stickyickyicky: nope, no rivet gun. Shitloads of other tools (big time), no rivet gun. Bad time right now for any "extras", big frickin tax bills to pay April 15. Probably shouldn't have started this little project right now, but is there ever a good time?

DiscoBiscuit: the fixture was not sealed. Had bugs in it. I'm gonna leave it off and try it, although I may stick it on. My concern was the extra thickness of the metal and getting the little itsy bitsy screws through and nuts on them.

FreezerBoy: haven't hooked up a power cord yet, so no ground. (Ground just comes from the power cord.) I'll drill a hole in the end and use a self tapping screw for it. Good call! By the way, power cord? Old computer power cords! I'm cheap!

stickyickyicky: don't worry about disco, or being confused. Heck, I'm confused most the darn time. Like, which way did he go?

Plants are doing okay under my one two bulb 4' floro, but I am anxious to get some HID in there. I got 4 lamps, 2 HPS 150, and 2 MH 175 for 10 bucks each. I want to get at least two of the HPS and one of the MH in my 10 sq. ft. closet. It's all a work in progress.

Enjoy yer day guys. It's Friiiiiiiiiiiday!!!!
