HPS and MH?

Hey guys i was just wondering if using an HPS and a MH together would be beneficial, OR just using 2 HPS'
i am planning on 2k watts total.
so 1000w hps and 1000w mh next to eachother for flowering.
any thoughts or comments on this light setup?

Thats why they sell combo fixtures,I have a sun system 800W.They make the better combo fixture better than the growzilla. The growzilla lamps are side by side which bites, the sun system lamps are end to end like it should be.

I have used MH through an entire grow and I have used HPS for an entire grow and I noticed very little difference. I felt the HPS was a little better and I stick with them due to bulb cost.

thanks guys,

any other thoughts?

is there really any benefit to have both MH and HPS to complete the light spectrum?

its hard to know exactly.. some people believe having the more complete spectrum will play a part in development of certain compounds on the plant that would not be there with only 1 spectrum. its similar to the indoor vs. outdoor debate but there is not enough understanding of all the molecules a plant produces and how they affect the outcome of the smoke. i wish i knew.

its obvious most people claim that mh is best for veg and hps is best for flower. but whether all mh in veg and all hps in flower is better than half and half in both is not well known either.

I think use 1 hps and 1 mh. IMHO mh is a better light by itself than hps. Hps is better if you are growing in a greenhouse with sunshine and add this light at night to extend the daylength. I have had great success with mh. :joint:

you can get conversion bulbs that have more Blue specturm with a bit of red. Really what it comes down to what your trying to achieve with bulbs is recreating what the ol sun does naturally. I use MH for veg and HPS for flower, just mimicing the seasons that all same with the different time phases.

I use Son-T Agro for veg & first weeks of flowering (60% Red / 40% Blue spectrum light)
THen I use regular HPS bulb to finish the plants under.

Its only better if the bulbs are close enough that the blue/red spectrum is mixed, having a MH and HPS bulbs in separate hoods does no good at all in the same closit.

I use 1K blue and 1K yellow, the quality of sativas is better if they get UV from the MH. If you are cash cropping indicas, you get a touch more leaf weight with all yellow, because the yellows alone are insufficient for mari, so they add more leaf to catch enough for their metabolism. Nothing I just said is theory, all from testing in my own grows, your results will enevitably vary.

HATE to burst anyone's bubble...but currently have a grow w/ 1 MH...and 1 HPS...BOTH the same wattage...the plants in the MIDDLE are leaning towards the MH side...AND the MH side are noticable more resinous...BOTH have new bulbs as well...makes one want to "think" a bit...height is about the same...MAYBE a inch taller on the MH side..but THEY were the first to be staked up as well..

By the way...I'm NOT out to prove myself...OR a point...I have 4 400w lights...2 MH..2 HPS...one of the HPS was "dim" in comparrison so I used 1 MH...1 HPS (toooo lazy to go buy a new bulb) OTHERWISE I'd never have done this...just gone WITH the flow... INTERESTING...

I would also add the store bought (lowes, home depo) HPS suck ass they are for street lights not growing and not worth the substitute.

I agree with this as I am currently using 2 1k's and One has a Hortilux Blue and the other has a HPS. I just rotate the plants weekly or more often under each light. The Hortilux Blues full spectrum seems to do better. It just shy of the amount a HPS has in the orange. And I'm getting better results out of the MH Hortilux. With the exception that the plants that started out in the HPS showed flowers first. Maybe because of the lower lumens per sq. ft. of the HPS. The plants in the middle I have also lean to the MH Hortilux.

Not aurguing that the Hortilux isnt a way better light, but all I've ever used is those suck ass HPS bulbs from HD :moon:

I'd say they grow pretty good bud

Not if you rotate your plants. Putting them in the mixed areas and under each light equally. The only place those Home Depot lights belong is over the garage door.

nice buds 70s just wondering what they would look like with a real grow light. I know my experiences with Lowes bought HPS results were shit compared to when I got actual grow lights. BTW what wattage were they

Either way you seem to know your shit.
