I remember reading long ago about HPS and MH ratios for best yield in a magazine circa 1998. Has this been proven yet? I think the article stated 4:1 ratio. HPS to MH.
Im thinking of testing it out. Going 5k. 4 hps in corners of a 10'x10' area and one MH in the middle. The 4HPS will be 2ft away from corners. All parabolic hoods. Or am I better off just doing all HPS.
The article I read was from mid to late 90s. It was either in Skunk Magazine, Cannabis Culture or Hightimes. I truly cant remember the ratio so hermdog you may be right. I do remember it started with a 4. So Im guessing 4:1 or 4:3 or 4:5.
Kyle Kushman quote:
"So you still think you need a little more juice than a 600-watter can provide? Hybridize your lighting by hanging a 1,000-watt MH among three or four 600-watt HPS lamps. Trust me when I say that blending HPS and MH at a ratio of 3 to 1 is the ultimate equation. Combining the two lamps yields higher-density buds than HPS alone."

Not the article I originally referred to but its a start.
