How would you set up a rectangular flowering room (6'x4')?

The room is 6 feet long and 4 feet wide, 7 foot ceiling over about 42" of it and 6 foot ceiling over the rest. Nice room to use, but the shape and size are less than ideal. Veg is in a separate area under a 400w.

Stadium SOG could yield the most I suppose but I'm thinking lower plant numbers, soil, simple, and it has to account for run off from watering (no drain in room, my thought was a little caddy on casters to hold a smart pot over a plant tray to catch the runoff, trellis built onto the caddy too). You also have to be able to get into the room through the doorway, so anything in front of it must be easily movable, and have enough space to water and train a bit.

I was thinking hang a bare 1kw vertical in the middle on a track and have it move back and forth a couple feet to hit all of the rectangular space. Put a dozen plants around the walls in 5 gallon/12" diameter fabric pots and tie them back to screens on the walls, trying to keep them at least 18" from the center line of the room.

Not sure if 1kw would be too much, but 600w doesn't seem like enough to cover the space.

The intake air is climate controlled 72°, exhaust is 8x24" Phresh filter and 8" Phresh Hyper fan. The one 8" exhaust port is the only way to get air out of the room.

The 6' ceiling in the lower part means a bulb hanging off a mover would probably be 5' off the ground tops. It'll end up being right in between the tops, not much ability to raise it above them.

Maybe stacked 600's so the distance from the light isn't as much of an issue, but then I'd feel like I'd need two levels or an extra long veg time to use that much height.

Another idea is two 600w's, not on movers, and plants around them in a figure 8. But that's crowded and even more watts and it would tougher to get in the room to water and train.

What would you good folks do in this space?

I've run 1k light in a 4x4 tent before with good results. 1k is not too much. i would say go 1k just stationary and go either fewer bigger plants scrogged or LST. OR go high plant numbers and SOG. Two ways to get increased yields. I never done a stadium but i guess it could work. For ease of watering just have pots with drip trays. reach in and water, that simple. if it becomes a problem invest in a pump that connects to a garden hose and then attach a garden wand with a trigger. Reach wand in under the plants, and water. Its good to move plants around and trim off dead leaves.

Switch door so it opens out instead of in. Ideas:

It does open out, but you still have to walk through it into the room and then have some room to water and train. Could have a pot on rollers to move out of the way, but there's not enough room inside, you'd have to move it back and forth every time you went in and out, moving it out of the way of the door would pretty put it in the middle of the room, which is the only small space to stand and work.

It would be a pita to pull plants out one at a time, not interested in that.

Bare bulb 1k? I've run it in a horizontal air-cooled reflector, no problem.

I can't seem to find a good answer on how tall of a light footprint a 600w or 1kw will throw sideways. Between 2 and 3 feet or so but I'm not sure if a 1kw @2' will be more like a 2' or more like a 3' vertical spread.

Probably just need to get a light meter and see for oneself and try a couple different things to see.

Watering, though, not exactly that simple. If you have drain trays the plant should be raised so isn't soaking in runoff, and you have to be able to remove them (plant not sitting on them) to dump them or you have to go around after watering and shop vac them all dry.

You should check out vertical scrog, a couple guys that come to mind on here are Bennyweed, Ichabod Crane and I think Dablab( it's been awhile but I think that was his handle ). Train them against a screen on each wall so you have a small aisle in the middle for bulbs and maintenance. That space I would do twin 600's at a minimum for max light coverage, two columns of stacked 600's would grow some monsters. There are many bad ass ways to set up a vert room though so you should do some advanced reading over in that forum.

The drainage issue, put a spacer in between the drain pain and pot you'll be fine, it can evaporate away if you keep runoff within its abilities. Really though, in such a small space 6-8 bigger plants would fill that up fine I can't imagine it'd take more than a minute or 2 to wet vac a couple trays?

I hear ya, and vscrog is the idea, just trying to figure if I want to screen behind the plant against the wall or in front of the plant or how I might fit 2 levels in. Two columns of stacked 600's would be too much heat I'm pretty sure. It's only about 160 cubit feet inside the room.

Shop vac'ing trays isn't bad as long as it's not too cramped, but I've tried just letting the water evaporate and that gets super nasty. Weird shit growing in it despite how scarily toxic the water looks.

Probably just need to try a couple layouts and see what's working well.

Two-level vertical scrog. Stacked 600's. Tall plants/strains that stretch on the lower level, Bushy/ low stretch strains/ short veg time strains on the upper level. Angled gutters with hoses to a basin/thru the floor, under the upper level to deal with run-off.

Build a wall that is on hinges, with a shelf/shelves for access without losing any space for the plants. I did a room just like I described, except with a 400 and 600, not 2 600's.
