How were YOU arrested? (Stupid Mistakes)

We have all been really high and made some dangerous mistakes in our lives. Some were close calls, others not so lucky. Share your arrest story here so we can all laugh, and learn. What is behind us should stay behind us.

In October 2005 I was going to a Wine Supply store (another passion of mine) and it is in a part of a town I do not know that well. It was a busy Friday commute on the Interstate. I missed my turn to the wine place, so I took the next exit and it spilled directly into a military base. The old grey rent a cop at the gate asked me what I was doing and I told him. He asked for my license, I figured what the hay, why not. When he got my license he pointed out the cold frosty bottle of Heineken in my console and asked me to drive onto the base. He took my keys and called the MPs. They all screwed it up like the monkeys on a football. They were dropping and breaking things etc. I refused to take a Breath Test (Although I was not intoxicated). I had felt they were out of their jurisdiction and were not following the correct procedures. I was right, but it had to go to court, and it cost me $4k to defend myself. Not taking the breath test made me lose my license for a year too. So something so stupid got me arrested. I spent a little while in the militarty brig too. I am not ready to laugh about this quite yet, but soon I hope. $4k is a lot of ice cream cones.

Driving along with a pound of skunk sitting in the back seat smelling to high heaven and my pregnant girlfriend sitting beside me. Got me busted when pulled for a routine traffic stop. Stupid. I now learned to put everything in the trunk even when going on a short journey, and NEVER allow a search. My girlfriend got off thank god and didn't have to spend the night in jail, because she was pregnant and the one that let the cop search the car while the other cop had me destracted. Nice of them eh? Live and learn.

Man oh Man, have I got one for you. And this is a true story.

I was in San Diego in the early 80s, I was a sailor training for underwater warfare. I was sort of tricked into getting into that field of work at the times because of it’s electronic component. When I was in SD I met all kinds of crazy types in the classes I was taking. All kinds of really smart dudes that were into getting high. One fellow named Ron was from Monterey Ca and the other fellow Bob was from Miami. We all split a duplex unit in the Point Loma area, very close to all of the bases. Bob had a problem with cocaine at the time and I doubt he is even still alive. Ron was mostly a NorCal pot head. Bob worked his ass off to get a decent cocaine connection and found one in the LA area. The stuff he got then was very pure. He could take a single ounce and cut it by half and it was still better than the stuff sold locally in San Diego. Ron and I had a connection for this stuff called Thai Stick, but it was really just Thai Weed, no stick. Thinking back now, it was probably just some really good Mexican, but it was very popular. Every two weeks we would get the other sailors to come to our place and put in money (retail prices) for the pound of Thai and the Ounce of cocaine. We would rent a hotel on the way back from LA and cut the cocaine. We three would share the uncut coke and divide the profits for the weed and coke too. When we got back to the apartment all the fellas would be happily waiting get their goods and we would see them in a couple of weeks.
This one time a friend turned rat on us because he got beat up in a drug deal of his own and we did not support him. It was Payday in the Navy and all the sailors were coming to our place to do the deals. That particular weekend I optioned out of all the drug dealing because I had some other things to do. I also did not doing all of that coke, it was keeping me too wired to function. I was heading out that afternoon to go buy a motorcycle from someone. As I was walking out in the yard I seen what seemed like scores of officers, local, federal and Navy. The were whizzing past me with guns drawn and raiding the apartment. Then one of them grabbed me. I said I had nothing to do with what they were doing and just cutting through the yard. They arrested me and everyone else around and brought us into the apartment. They had come many hours early and there were no drugs in the house, just all of the money collected from the other sailors, a scale, some needles (for Bob the coke head) and some fake hash and stuff. It was a big stack of money and Bob was yelling at the cop that he wanted a receipt for it and the phone rang. It was a local coke head beach dweller calling to see if anyone needed anything. The cop answered and said that Bob was all tied up, but to bring whatever he had. Then they took all of us out of the house. I was not on the lease, but Bob and Ron were, and they were taken to jail for the needles that Bob had. The passersby like myself were put into this van and parked up the hill until that one cokehead showed up. They arrested him and then let all of us go. The coke head had 1 ounce of coke, and a pound of Thai weed. Bob and Ron were let go, and let out of the navy about two weeks later. They gave all of the money back to Bob. No one ever heard from either of the two again, and for all we know Bob used the money for what ever he wanted. He shared needles with people, and that was right about the time aids was coming out. I think he is dead now, but I do not know. He had a real problem with the coke. I assume that beach dweller got some maximum sentence in jail for making that stupid phone call.
Me? I lived the next 25 years working hard and making a career for myself in electrical engineering.

Man here is another one. I live in San Diego for about 3 and half years. I had many near misses with the law, and a lot of fun. I learned a lot down there and miss living there. All and all I have to guess I am doing much better than if I had stayed there.
One time I was engaged to this girl named Sharon. She was tall, slender, and beautiful. She was 24 and I was 19. We got into an a fight one day, so I had to move out. I moved into a hotel in down town San Diego, near the police station. Was that place ever a dive. Anyway, I was really broken hearted about losing Sharon. I was on my way to a local liquor store to buy some paper and stuff so I could write her a love letter when I seen this guy in behind some hedges asking me if I wanted some pot. I needed some of that too, so I slipped into the bushes with him. He was this really tall black guy with a giant afro and platform shoes. He had something I wanted and it cost $15. All I had was a $20 and told him I would be right back. I went to the store, bought my stuff there and made sure I had the fellows money in my left front pocket. I went back to were the fellow was and there were two other guys there. They looked like sailors, hard to explain, but they looked the way we did back then. They were passing a joint around and one of the sailors handed it to me. I smoked on it a little and said, “This is quite a crowd to be in the middle of the city in the bushes, you guys need to watch for police.” The fellow that handed me the joint said no shit, and he had a badge out. I had just seen a friend of mine flashing a badge a couple days before that and I thought it was just another gag. I said that is not real is it? He said it was. Next thing I know they were trying to restrain this tall black guy. He was yelling all kinds of stuff, including he didn’t think the badges were real either. Then it got physical and they were beating this guy repeatedly on the head with these leather things with lead in them. The must of smacked him a hundred times. He stood up and threw the cops off of him and went running down the street with the cops following him. I can still hear the sound of those platform shoes hitting the street. One of the cops turned around and took my ID and told me to wait.
I waited for what seemed like an hour. He had my military ID and I had to wait. Once they got back to me they had the dealer in the back of the car and boy did he glare at me. I think he thinks I was with the cops. They wanted to arrest me. I said for what? And they said for buying weed. I said I had no money, I was just trying to smoke for free. They looked in my wallet and it was empty. Then he wanted to arrest me for smoking. I said, “You handed me the joint officer”. He said, “I did, didn’t I.” Then the old uniformed cop told me he would be telling the navy what had happened. I never heard about it again.

I was pretty shaken alright. And all along I had wondered if the police seen my go into the bushes the first time and then went and seen him. I dunno. He was selling small amounts on the street. Not advised to buy or sell on the street if you have anything to lose.
