How well do duct mufflers work?

Hi there, just a quick question. How well do duct mufflers work for noise reduction? Is the reduction noticeable or neglegable? Also, do they decrease airflow in any way?

Particularly, I have my eye on this cheap 5" suncourt duct muffler from homedepot; anyone have any experience with this one (or similar)? (btw, my blower is a 265cfm dayton)

Thanks everyone!

Theyre probably designed for different requirements like a lot faster air or rattling noises. I want somone to build a good one in a DIY thread, shouldent be hard to find a configuration that does the trick. Maybe somthing that spreads out the opening to be a lot larger while baffling the air flow inside to make it not have the rushing air noise since its larger?

I have a small grow area 4'wide by 7' long by 6' high. In order to fit a carbon filter, aircooled hood and exhaust vent into the space, I had to make three right angles. It's the air blowing off the angles that made the outside exhaust really loud. I bought a duct muffler and put it in before the final angle. Straight out would have interfered with my light. It cut the noise to the point that you have to be about 6" away from the vent to hear it. And the vent is 9' in the air.

Worth every penny. I got mine for around $60 from a ventilation supply house, but the prices have gone up to around $80. Again, it's cheaper than bail.

Works fucking great for me.

Makes me room inaudible unless you are inside of it.

This is an 8" duct muffler from DH.com, amazing deal, and amazing noise reduction. night and day.

I have no opinion on Duct mufflers, as I have never used one.

However, as a basic rule, Suncort sucks ass :)

My 6" duct muffler is a SunCourt... and it looks more or less the same as Neptune's 8", scaled down of course. When I bought one ($62.50) I didn't have any information on how they were built and how they work; but now that I know, I'm building the next one (if necessary) myself.

But from some initial testing I'm pretty happy with it. Just waiting to hook it up to see how it really performs with smooth insulated ducting and all.
