How to setup a carbon filter?

My carbon filter came with no instructions.

There is a bag with a spongy material thing and what I assume is clips/bands to hoist it up somewhere.

Is it ready to go as is? What is the spongy material thing?

Such a noob :dance013:

your not a noob whoever sold it to you is a peni for not sendig throug your instructions. I have no idea it should all come ready perhaps the material is a spair.. you can call the laser ass ball bag and ask them what to do

the spongy thing is a "sock" that slides over the filter to catch dust, saves the carbon from getting clogged with dust. slide it over the outside of the filter and secure it with the bands and clips you have. do not try and hang the filter with those bands!... they are meant to hold the sock in place only.

Yep, put that white sponge around the filter to keep dust from getting into the carbon.. Use those white plastic straps to hold it on the filter. Here's a pic on how to tighten the staps:

Thanks guys.

Rather than start another thread here are some questions relating to fixtures in my tent...

How best to setup my stuff?

Picture 1. Hanging the Carbon Filter (will put sock on soon - just test running) it pinches the horizontal bars together. Not to mention using its own weight on ropes is probably not that great anyway. How best to install it?

Picture 2. How dangerous are cable/zip ties? Do they wear? AND how secure is this fan? The horiztonal frame it comes with is only held in by those screws but they only turn clockwise once and stop. It then hangs on the lip of the screws.

Picture 3. Light fitting for test run - Going to grab some of those adjustable string cable things soon but again - dangers of zip ties wearing?

those aluminum drapery runners will bend real easy, and will break within 6months to a year from the fan vibrations, and those zip ties, well about 18months before they snap.
rethink your mounting hardware, you need something WAY more secure.

Who uses socks? I use T-shirts, it gets messy. :)

Use angled mounting brackets with #8 sheet metal screws. Or drill all the way through the white pole and use a machine screw with a nut on the back side.

Like said above, zip ties and flimsy mounting is just not going to last.

Also, It might be worth looking into some foam pipe insulation to put between the bracket and the metal you are mounting to for vibration dampening.

are carbon filters meant to be level (height parallel to ground such as seen when suspended in air) or will it make no difference if i stand it up on something like a table(aside from reducing airflow b/c of increased bends in ducting)?
