How to re-amend soil for reuse. HELP

Yo, can some give me some advise on amending soil? My friends trying to reuse the soil from last year. They were fed with general hydro nutes all summer and are now in clumps from the pots getting tipped over in a pile. What's do you think?

The old soil will be full of nutes and whatever build up that was left over. If they were left outside then there is no telling what else might have moved in. I rinse the old soil with Sledgehammer (there are other types of flush available) really well before re-mixing with fresh. FWIW, to me the remixed soil is never as good as fresh but others have scoffed at that.

Getting it tested is a good idea especially if non-organic nutes were used. There could definitely be a salt build-up. I've had good luck just adding worm castings, kelp meal, glacial rock, and trace mineral to old soil. But I feed with organic nutes and teas, and top dress aggressively.
