How to make whisper quiet fan even quieter?

I bought the Panasonic Whisper quiet fan and it's definitely quieter than a normal inline fan but it still sounds like an air duct or powerful AC. The fan is inside a wardrobe and is blowing out the back. No ducting work. Any thoughts on how I can make it even quieter? Some type of silencer or ducting work?

Right now the fan is pulling through a DIY carbon filter. Would adding more carbon quiet it down more?

Here's the fan:

i used a muffler on a 6 inch hyper fan didnt cut the noise down to much..ive seen a video where they had wrapped a inline fan with a sleeping bag maybe you could do something like this.. its a hard one though.. but yeah this snake11 guy sounds on the right track.. could build a box where the fan comes out and use this as a silincer.. you may want to run ducting out of the box though.. im sure youve probaly already tried but im sure youtube could help with this..

I have a pretty shitty inliner and I've had to build a 3-4 ft muffler, and use like 4 ft of insulated ducting - on top of that i insulated the fan itself in a cardboardbox with stuff like pillow filling -- top that off with a speed regulator for the fan and it should make less or around the same noise as a computer!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I might try one of the silencers. Hoping the 90 degree bend doesn't make more noise.

I just got a 6" Panasonic fan too

I haven't hooked it up yet. Going to put it up this week. It'll run my recirculating scrubber in my room. Was thinking of using 6" regular dryer ducting on the exhaust end as I don't have any insulated In That size, but run it down the middle of some leftover 8" insulated ducting to see if it cuts down on the noise..

If u have any cfm to spare, try out a variac speed controller from eBay.

Definitely a silencer. Nice that the prefab have come down in price.

Hard ducting with insulation wrap, or flexible insulated. Rubber between the fan and connection point, either grommets, bungee cords or the like. Wrapping the fan in a layer of insulation and panda poly cuts a few decibels (or building the above mentioned box). The carbon can can be wrapped in thin batting, much like the prefab units. Easy to pick up in rolls at a craft store.

I just wanna point out that it's always nice to run a larger size ducting - it usually cuts down on air-noise! I would connect the 8" insulated to the 6" exhaust!

Agreed. The cheaper electronic speed controls can cause motor whine but there's none of that with a variac. Care must be taken to set the voltage high enough to guarantee motor start up every time or burnout can occur.

This material applied to the wall behind & the back of the cabinet would likely be of some help, too-
