How to make a normal carbon filter into an inline

I wanted to be able to vent multiple rooms from 1 filter inline with my ductwork. So I made this:


(1) 6" starter collar
(1) 6" duct connector
(1) 4x8 sheet of plywood/mdf/osb
Duct sealant

Carbon filter is 17" long x 20" round. Box is 24x24x32.
Collar is attached to one end of box using the tabs on it. Connector is pushed through the other end and screwed into place. Sealed with duct sealant. If you aren't using this on your ductwork then your duct is not airtight sealed. Duct tape alone isn't perfectly sealed, especially if it is the gray crap.

2x4 was used to make stand offs in the bottom and sides so the filter doesn't rest against them.

The filter goes inside. A small piece of duct is attached between it and the connector. Everything is sealed up and the top piece is screwed on. Just connect it inline with your duct work, and it's done.

I've only been running mine like this for a day, but is working fine. My fan is oversize for my room, so is the filter by at least 2x so doesn't seem to have a problem with still pulling plenty of air.

I'm using it to run 2 rooms about 4x4. I originally had a small filter in each room, but they sucked and weren't enough. Spent the money on a way oversize filter for the flower room (this filter) which fixed that room and left the veg one alone. Even the veg plants got passed the crappy filter it had. Didn't want to spend more money on another good filter for the veg room so I made this. I'm actually pulling through the cheap filters (htgsupply 4" and 6") mounted inside each room first, then into the inline. They maybe stop some smell, but mostly act as a pre-filter for the big inline filter. I will also be splitting it off to pull through a drying box.
