How to get rid of the MJ taste?

I know this question is sort of an oxymoron but let me try and explain. In my younger years I would ingest pot in many different ways even just grinding it up and putting it in a glass of water. Well I OD'ed a couple of times (ralphed) and everything changed for me. I have this gag reflex from even smelling pot brownies or tasting silly chili. You know the type you get from something you had a bad experience with. I guess a common one I hear is Tequila. It has a very distinct taste and order so once you loose your cookies with tequila you never forget the smell and taste and even being close to it gives you that gag reflex.

I have tried everything to hide the smell and taste. For a while I would go to the health food stores and buy the empty 500 mg gel capsules and grind the weed up and put in the gel capsules and take a certain amount of them. That sucks because it can take awhile for them to break down and when they do it is all at once instead of slow normal digestion. Plus the fact it is not cooked at all.

I have learned a lot from coming to OG and IC mag and I have recently ingested MJ again and almost ralphed getting it down but loved the effect it is great. I know it is a physiological problem but can’t seem to get over it.

Does anyone have a recipe that will leave absolutely no pot taste or smell? I realize it matters on potency because of the amount used. Let me just preface the question with the fact that I had a bad harvest this year which left me with a lot of very low grade (potency) weed. The last batch of brownies I made I used 1.5 ozs of weed (ground up in coffee grinder and put straight into the mix) and cut them up into 40-45 grams which was a very good (not trippy) buzz.

Hmmm...

Dude i'll tell you how i solve such problems: stay away for a month or two if you can.
And when the time comes to retry it try not to think about last bad experience.

It will help your mind rewire around that memory. Just give your self some no-MJ time. Just my way to deal with Guiness and alchool in general.

I've never had a batch of brownies that I couldn't taste the cannabutter in.

I use the crock pot method as described in the cannabutter in 7 easy steps thread in this forum. While cooking the butter down it really reeks and I'm sure you would gag. That said however, some friends who have tried my brownies can't taste the cannabutter at all.

I guess it depends on the person.

When I make some brownies again I'm going to use a lot less butter as the ones I have right now are way too potent, I can only eat a quarter of a brownie. If I use a quarter of the amount of this batch of super strong butter (which is stored in the freezer) then each whole brownie will have the same amount of cannabutter as a quarter of one now and the taste may be diluted with the dose being a full brownie.

Along these lines.....

You always hear of someone bringing in pot brownies to work or school and everyone gobbling them down without knowing it, How can they not taste the pot? Then they are like...Oh My God we've been poisoned arrest that dude!

you get rid of that mj taste by reading this forum more. no seriously, try making oil or butter in a crockpot and strain it out with cheese cloth. thc bonds to the fat. i don't taste the dope this way and i get the great high i expect.

Ganjaleaving: Dude I have smoked this shit, great verbiage for this stuff. I roll a thumb joint and feel nothing. That’s why I resorted to cooking.

Wv rastafari: I am such a frugal f***er I need to try and use the MJ butter. I am always afraid I will loose some of the potency if I do not put everything in the brownies. I think I will have to try some MJ oil or butter, as I believe that would help.

I have heard that water curing helps take a lot of the taste out when you cook with it (but this only applies if you grow your own)...something to look into!

I just grind up my herb then put it in a small container with the vegetable oil i will be using in the brownies. Let its soak for a day or 2. Filter out the plant matter and then bake the brownies. I can never taste it and i get ****ed. I think you just need the heat to speed up the resiny thc from separating from the plant.

If you grow you can watercure to remove any smell.

Anyhow read this:

hi guys i want just to place my little imput:

I've been cooking with cannabis for a while and i can assure you that this way not only you'll get the strongest butter, but also the best tastier.

First: Take a large saucepan a fill with water. Put it on fire.

When the water is hot (never boiling) pick a smaller saucepan and put it floating in the bigger pan. Place the butter and wait it melts, add the weed and keep this way for 10-15 minutes till the butter turn to a dark green.

Not putting the butter straight on on the saucepan on fire will prevent the butter to get too hot and fry, destroying part of the THC.

Take the small saucepan and put outside, with the weed still inside, for like 2 days, till it gets very hard.

This way the butter will absorb EVERYTHING from weed: thc, good taste, bad taste, crap...

Now take again the small saucepan and put in a bigger saucepan as in the first step. Add to the small sauce pan 5 parts of water each part of butter.

The more water you put the better the butter will results, but don't put too much or the butter won't have a solidification.

Wait ten minutes in the hot saucepan till the butter is mixed with the water and then put the water/butter in a jar filtering the weed with a mesh.

Now wait this butter to cool, maybe in a fridge, for 1 or 2 days.

You'll have the butter on the top, the water in the middle AND BE CAREFUL: there's resin on the bottom.

I haven't never had enough cannabutter to taste that resin, but maybe it's good. I dunno.


Anyhow i assure that not only this way you'll get stronger cannabutter, but also MORE TASTEFUL. It will tase VERY GOOD and not crappy.
 
The space-cakes I had in A-dam tasted NOTHING like MJ, so I know its possible. I wonder how they do it though, because every recepie Ive tried has an overpowering taste of grass.

I just made some cannabis butter with my trim, used the butter to make Chocolate chip cookies. I make a couple batches and put them in tins and pass them out to family at X-mas time. Everyone loves them. So do I, very potent.
 
I definitely know where you're coming from with strong weed taste in your edibles. My girlfriend hates the taste of weed, but I love it...go figure.

First off, I would try extracting the THC from the plant material. You can do this by numerous methods, it's all up to you. This way, you have the THC and not the chlorophyll/plant material. I would suggest butter or oil as a place to start.

If the butter/oil is still too strong in taste, try diluting it with regular butter/oil. For example: cookies with straight budder = way stoney, way strong weed taste. cookies with 1/2-1/2 budder/butter = less stoney(eat more of them), less weed taste.

And lastly. If the butter is still too strong in taste, try using Kif, hash, or concentrated infusion instead.

kief or un pressed bub. i actually made some weed chocolate 3 days ago and ate the last of it this morning. I used a gram of kief which got me and 2 other friends really high with an extra serving for myself the next day. Best part about it is you dont need to use premade cannabutter which is like a 12 hour process. its a quick 20 min on the spot recipe. Also if u like milk you can make that, i find it much easier to consume because if u get your ratio correct you can dose with a 1 oz shot of milk rather than forcing down a cookie. For example...8 grams of weed into 8 ounces of milk = 1 gram per ounce. To get rid of the flavor you can poor your one shot into a glass of plain milk to dilute or make a milk shake. i also find that the milk hits you a lot harder all at once rather than a slow build but i dunno could just be placebo

sorry to double post but i have a question to ask u! Where did you get the gelcaps you used to make the canna caps you described in the first post? I live in cali and i have no clue where to get them. Would GNC have them?

Hey Hamstring . .if I am reading this right - are you letting the plant material get into the final product? I used to think I had to do that, too - but I hated the taste of cooked weed. Last weekend I tried a method similar to what is mentioned above and it worked really well. There was a slight MJ taste and the cookies were way way stoney. I think if I made chocoloate brownies I might not have been able to taste the weed at all.

I don't know if I am allowed to link to another site or not . .but this recipe comes from another board user called KarmasPayment . .search google to easily find the original post.

To make the butter I started with 1 ounce of some really sweet outdoor black afghani. I also like smoking this herb. I broke up the buds loosely by hand and set them aside.

I then filled a large stockpot with water . maybe 8 cups . .the amount doesn't really matter as long as there's enough. More is better. I brought the water to a raging boil and tossed in the margerine. I then reduced the heat to Medium low and tossed in the weed and simmered for about 3 hours.

I then took the mixture off the stove and let it cool a bit before pouring it through a strainer lined with a cheesecloth into a bowl. Make sure and squeeze the cheesecloth good to get everything through and leave only the leaves behind.

Then put it in the fridge overnight. *Note - it's not good for your fridge or the other items in it to put really hot things in it . .let the stuff cool for 30 minutes or so first.

In the morning, the budder was solidified on top of the water . .I just lifted it off and poured away the water and plant bits. What I had left was a solid green disc of cannabutter! I put it in a bowl and microwaved it for a few seconds to melt it a bit and then put it in the fridge - ready for use.

I made sugar cookies with my budder. The cookies came out white and looked normal. They had a slight taste of weed, though . .I think if I make chocolate cookies next time I won't taste it at all.

The best part is that these cookies are THE BOMB. I made 16 cookies out of the ounce and a "normal" person will roll around on the floor like an idiot from eating 1 of them. I like to eat 2 :)

yes, you definitely want to make butter by using water in the mix. it really helps separate the crap and leaves you with thc goodness. it still tastes like weed, though. i've got a bunch of butter in the freeze that i keep meaning to use up. i think i'm going to make some caramels :)

i dont think you could get rid of the taste fully no matter what you do. Even when using kief but it is better than the leaf material. Now that i think about it iso hash may work with even less tast, but dont quote me

I too can not stand the taste of weed in my brownies. Gag.

My secret has alwasys been LOTS of chocolate.

Pour it on, I get a bottle of chocolate syrup, and just load it up. If the batter gets too watered down, just add some flour untill back to the orignal consitency. Heck, I have even added crushed up candy bars to the mix before.

Or how about using those little 9'' cooking pans, and splitting the batter between the two. Add a layer of frosting on top of each. then stack them up so you have a little sandwhich with frosting in the middle.

That and making good quality oil to begin with, definatley use water, it filters out a considerable ammount of gunk.

I have always wanted to use some good hash in the mix. I don't see how a few grams of hash in a pan of brownies would have any taste at all??? It would probably be the best way to make the perfect no odor/taste brownies. I always plan to do it, but every time I make hash I jsut end up smoking it, hehehe.

the way to do it is to make BHO...make bho (use a stainless steel okief tube and vector butane) and then dissolve the bho in the amount of canola oil that is called for in the recipe...just use the canola to make some banana bread or something, if u dumped a bag of cranberries in there and did it with bho u wouldn't taste it the way u do now...its more of a 'hint' of pot rather than the nasty leaf taste...the chlorophyll and all that crap taste like such ass especially after having been cooked...

I would water cure the weed- and take a full week to do it. Then I would do a butter/oil extraction of the THC. Think about how folks gripe about the flavorlessness of water-cured weed! It ought to work!- Granny :joint:
