How to get pollen from male plants

i was reading that you can manually take the pollen from the male plants and put it on the female plant could anyone give me a link or tell me how to do this ??? thanks alot.

Its kinda like milking a cow except instead of pulling on udders you just let them flower.

When several of the flowers have opened up shake the top of the plant over glass or some other smooth surface. Scrape the pollen up and use it as is or mix it with flour at a ratio of about 1 part pollen to 10 parts flour. The flour makes it easier to deal with and will not dilute the pollen, you'll still get seeds.

This is how I do it: If the male's about to flower, I cut off a couple of flowering branches and stick them in cups of water. That way, the male plant is out of the flowering room. Put your cups/glasses of water over a smooth surface-a magazine or newspaper, or a plate. Then just wait for the pollen to drop and collect. Can be stored in the freezer for long term.

Do you keep the male growing and, simply take a branch at a time?
Does it continue producing sacks after you take a cutting?

I've never let them go long enough to find out. The idea is to contain all pollen in a tightly controlled space with as little extra as possible. That stuffs wicked, you don't want it floating around freely. Once I take some stems, I throw the male out.

Flowers will continue to mature and drop their load. This is then "painted" on individual female flowers with a small paint brush or Q-tip. This stem produced well over 100 seeds.

You want to get rid of that male, unless you want all of your females pollinated. Once pollen is released in the grow room, it's over.

Actually, at that point, I don't worry about hours of light/dark. They are going to drop that pollen no matter what, once you see the sacs.

then what do you do, once pollen is collected? and how exactly do you get it on the female plant without infesting the entire crop? I want to make seeds on this grow if I knew how?

Collect the pollen. You don't need much. Use a small paint brush (hobby brush) or a Q-Tip to swab a bit of pollen and brush it carefully on the female flowers on a couple of branches.. I would do this out of the flower room, if you don't want any pollen transferring to other plants.
Pollen can be stored in the freezer for long periods.

What I do.....

First mix your pollen with white flour.... 1 part pollen 9 parts flour....

The flour makes it heavy.... and less likely to get airborn......

Turn off and air....

Apply the pollen mixture to the lower flowers.... you will see pollen fall...

The next day at lights on ....

Use spray everything down..... this will germinate any stray pollen....

The pistils that were successfully pollenated are done doing their thing......

wait for everything to dry and turn back on your air....

Like RetroGrow said, manual pollination with brush or Qtip is best. Hit 3-5 flowers and you'll have 50-100 seeds depending on the structure.

After I get a good look at their flower structure, I top males to set them back a bit from the ladies. Then, when flower stalks are starting to form, I cut all but one on each plant. That way, I can see when the first flower from each opens. One male flowers' pollin will easily spread to 30 females with a nice artists' brush. I can't say if you could do that with a Qtip, but I think not.

I collect the pollin in a bottle cap hotglued to the end of a chopstick. I maneuver the bottle cap up under the open flower without touching the plant. I pin the flower against the side of the cap with the end of another chopstick which causes it to drop all of it's pollin right in the bottom of the cap. I don't loose one grain with this method. None floating around or sticking to my clothes. I can just pour it into a small glass bottle for storage.

I do it the same as this but I put tin foil under the cup with the branches in it. You can really see the pollen on the tin foil and when I have a lot collected I just fold up the foil, write the strain with a sharpie pen on the foil and put it in a zip lock bag in the freezer. Then I use my finger or a q-tip to wipe the pollen on some buds. We call it planned parenthood. Also make sure to pollinate smaller buds instead of big buds because the big buds tend to mold after they are seeded. Outdoors anyways. I Also mark the branch that I pollinate with some duct tape wrapped around and hanging off the stem like a tag so I can mark the cross. I usually also put some green stretchy tape hanging from the branch so I know not to harvest it by accident untill the seeds are ripe. I have harvested plants and then left the one branch to ripen up for a couple weeks afterwords. I have not tried the mixing flour into to the pollen trick but that sounds like a great idea. I have some males that I got hardly any pollen off of this year and I think the flour will come in handy.

Also make sure when you collect your pollen and go to store it, you remove any pollen sacks or balls or plant matter from the pollen.

Good idea!
