How to fix bad scent to buds?

I just finished a Bubba Kush grow and manicured my nice dry nugs to perfection and they are curing now and smell great. I had a bunch of leafier buds from the bottom of the plants and manicuring mistakes that I left in a bucket that I forgot about.

Three days later I found them beside my table and looked in to see if they were okay. There is no mold at all and don't even smell moldy as the layer was quite thin and were half dry. The leaves attached to the buds are wet and like spinach. Anyways, it still has the bubba smell but changed to a much stronger smell that is similar, but for some reason turns my stomch. My wife says it smells fine, but to me I wouldn't even be able to smoke it, something about the scent doesn't agree with me, not mouldy at all, just changed.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this smell with the BC cut of Bubba Kush and also how can it be fixed? Is it possible? I know now not to forget any buds and not to procrastinate trimming.

Thanks in advance!

Is the smell bacterial? A sort of sour smell. If the leaves were wet it could indicate that they had gone bacterial.

Well if its that bad stuff it in a turkey baster and blast the shit out of it with sum tane can't really go wrong there....

dry it, cure it in glass jars with lids and place an orange slice in with the bud or apple; your choice really, even mint leaf.

Okay, after a small time in jars the smell went back to being what I had expected. Also, I am quite embarrased about this, but for the sake of information on the strain I find it important to say what I think happened.

I use methadone for pain, and had gone 48 hours without it because of two broken bottles (long story) - that's when I found the buds. I was not feeling well to say the least, and after finally taking my drink the buds seemed to mysteriously smell good again lol.

I am sure there was a small change in smell, but not the stomache turning scent I thought the buds were previously - I noticed after posting my sense of smell had changed so everything was stomche turning lol. I am amazed withdrawl can have that effect. Anyways, sorry to waste your time - I thought it would be good to mention as I didn't want anyone getting the impression Bubba smells bad. Sorry again - I just hope this thread will get burried and forgotten lol. ...but thanks for the help, I feel normal again.

been there, done that! grew a strain that smelled like cat piss; a lemon hybrid. everyone said i aint buying that. after curing it and scenting the product i sold it all for top wholesale prices.

where there is a will, you will find the way. just like bc growers dying the weed greener to cover the brown because the buyers want it. most jamaican elites are brown bud like ICE.

I am going threw my weed not tasting as i wanted. It's been very wet and rainy and that will affect the cure. A good cure has to take a least 2 months in good dark sealed lid jars. Away from light and a dry, cool place. Longer will even be better. A long cure does wonders for mj, in taste, smell and a beter high/stone. It's just like fine wine. It not wine/mj before it's time.:bigeye:

6ULDV8, thanks for the kind response - I wanted to ask you about dying weed. You say growers actually dye the weed green to cover the brown? I have never heard this, but this is along the lines of people putting glass in pot to make it heavier and look nicer. I can't understand why that has to be done, just grow good weed and it will sell. I guess there are some that will do anything to someone's health for a buck.

Do you have any info on the subject? Thanks!

Painfull, thanks for the response. Unfortunately it was only in my head this time, but thanks for the info. I am good at what I do, but could be a better finisher. It's just that people keep on prying me for my stuff to finish, so I end up doing a quick job. Next time I am just going to tell them its ready when its ready.

Good thing you didn't toss it after smelling it! It doesn't surprise me that it turned your stomach while you were experiencing withdrawals. Had similar responses to smells before, though while on drugs, rather than withdrawing from them.
