How to activate charcoal~

I was trying to cut a corner~and thought I'd activate the charcoal myself~As per instructions found on the net, they say to add battery acid to coal and heat slowly~~~I'm not Scientist, but I have the feeling that I might have to wear mask gloves and probably an 02 tank topull this off~~

Has anyone tried to activate charcoal?

Just buy some man, it's fairly cheap and can be bought at any petstore.

It ain't that cheap~unless I wasn't in the right kinda store~I need at least 3 lbs to ensure my Canna stuff coming up~
I went to the pet store~
Next I'll try the Pool supply place~But yah 3 small bags about 200 grams costs 9 CAN. I just thought I could save on the charcoal~I made a huge exhaust box from my A/C cover and was gonna make two compartments for the activated charcoal~
But if iza gonna BLOW UP the hood I better forget about saving on that corner, eh?

At petsmart they have 28oz jars for about $8/US, so you just need two of those.


And I'm pretty sure you can't "make" activated carbon out of charcoal. If you could, it'd still cost more for supplies to do that than to just buy the damn carbon in the first place

I'll go to the BIG city near home~ I think we in PQ have a PetsMart~I paid top dollar all the way, the Canna CoCo at 25$ a bag. Plus all the Canna CoCo prods, light.......I will definetly try that at my camp this summer as an experiment~

Oh well, money grows on trees!

Instead of going to petsmart and getting carbon go to your local hydro shop... If you live in PQ I'm assumin quebec, then there are plenty o hydro shops around...
Ask for Pelletized activated charcoal... It's not horribly expensive...
Better than playin round with acid and stuff....
Hell spend 200 bucks and buy a whole filter, they come as cheap as 90 bucks...

Hello all,

Before buying off ebay, be sure it is what you want. Diffent mesh sizes have different properties. Speciifcally, larger mesh sizes are finer and the finer the harder it is for yoru fan to pull/push air through.

I use a 4X6 mesh and have had no issues with reduced airflow and no issues with odor.

It is a activated coco carbon and I got 50 pounds for 80 bux delivered from the manufacturer. I spoke withthe manufacturerer and 4X6 acc is perfect for organic odors.

Either way, someone who is not a chemist and has to start off a thread asking how to activate charcoal SHOULD NOT BE FUCKING AROUND WITH BATTERY ACID. Good thought, but it lets me know that you're the accident prone type.

I paid $1.55 a LB 4 mm pellet.

It's the shipping that kills but it sure works well.

I noticed I was asked the "what is it being used for" question this time.
That's new to me.

As for re-activating used carbon... I figure some sort of high pressure steam system could do it maybe.

I think it's cheeper and safer to buy more.

Your right kruger, this is the place to ask but does the risk really outway the benefits???
I mean how much charcoal could you possibly need to have to make it rather than buy it... If it takes you 2 or 3 hours at 2 guys @ 10$/hour thats 40 or fifty bucks worth of your time....
Save some cash, you have plenty of hydro shops at your disposal...
You can find cheap activated carbon....
