How the hell do you hang 400hps in a closet? I can't figure it out!

My 400hps lamp is.. heavy. Enclosed ballast, it's a big sucker. ( Sun Systems V ) Umm.. I'd say, it's like 40 pounds. I have a closet hanger rod, but it's week wood and held up by plastic cups. It holds my shoplights alright, but I need it to hold something a bit heavier. Lol.

So, i've been thinking of ideas. There aren't many studs in good places in my closet. So, for the most part, i've got drywall to work with. I was thinking about just building, out of 2x4's, the left, right, and top sides of a square. And just sticking it in the closet, and nail the left and right sides to my drywall walls. --- Will this be enough support?

Or build an "I" out of the wood, and nail it on the wall where i want the light to hang from.

I dont know, how did you guys do it?

Build a box with 2x4's. 3' wide x 6ft long x 4' high. Nail 3' piece horizontaly and plae hooks in it and hang from there. Of you can hang 2 lights with that space , room for upgrade

there should be studs over head at the top of the closet. Actually they would be either floor joists or roof trusses(depending on your situation. But you can just measure 16 inchs to find it, Trusses are 24 inches on center, joists are usually 16 inches. Wall studs, the trick is to measure from a corner(16 1/2inches) to find one.

And if you just nail a sqaure framed box to the drywall it will just pull through.

A few holes with a screwdriver through the ceiling and you will find soomething to screw a hook into, Keep the holes small and you should be able to cover them up with a little mud(ttaping compound) later on.

you could just go and built a frame to hang it from instead of having to drill into the wall and trying to find the beam/stud to screw the hook into, which means to holes to patch when you move out.

I ran 2X4's across the ceiling end to end. And then on each side a ran some screws into the ceiling as close to the wall as possible to hit the studs/trusses. No use some of those plants hanger's and drive them into the 2X4. You can nail a lot of things into your 2X4 now. Take a bit of putty and cover the holes later. Good Luck
