How soon to start LST?

Hello I am a total noob and doing my first grow. I have done a ton of reading here but this is my first post. My babies are between 7 and 9 days old now out of the soil, ranging between 5 inches and 8 inches all working on their 2nd nodes with the 3rd starting to show on the older ones. I plan on using the LST method and am curious when I should start the process? I can add a pic later if it will help.

Thank you in advance for any input!

i would say at around 2 weeks is the earliest but i usually let mine go a lil longer so the stem can get a bit stronger then slowly pull the lower every day or if theyre flexible just pull them all the way down but always be weary of snapping anything

8 inches at 9 days old? sounds like your plants might be stretching to me.... what kind of light are you using and how far from the plant is it? you want to try and keep the light as close as possible with out burning the plants

as far as the LST thing goes... i start my LST at around week 3

I am about to get new lights as the ones I am using now put off too much heat vs lumens. This is an experiment that just recently I decided to take seriously. I am about to replace my current veg lights with a T5 setup and 400W HPS for flowering. Going to be finishing hopefully about 4 females, starting with 8 seedlings. I am going to start cloning and work towards a perpetual harvest setup when I get some more experience under my belt. This is a great and fun learning process so far, I am already addicted lol!

I wait until they are about a foot tall or so. That way you can see which branches are better to keep on the up side....

i have a tutorial by big_buddha from OG it explains the LST process 2 wks og age is fine. its best to have plant in containers to i side so when ya start the tie down process you'll fill the container

i like LST and FIM performed FIM is where ya cut the main growth shoot BUT leave the bottom 10% of it. the cells left in this 10% are deviding like wild fire you'll get 4-8 new branches and the plant will retain a single main cola. if FIM is done wrong N/P ya just topped it instead of FIM

Bow fucking down, sir.

Thank you - and you couldnt have posted it at a more opportune time - I was thinking about LST'ing my momma plant since it has been essentially cropped 8 times or so.

My first attemp = snap - aka oops clone #1

Thanks again Maj.PotHead, that diagram is the most clear example of how to use LST that I have seen since learning about it. I feel I have a complete grasp on it now, I will be starting the process at the end of this week :woohoo:

I like to start light stress training when they're about 5-6" tall. I'll start by just bending the stalk maybe only about 45 degrees and then pushing it a little more as it gets bigger. Just be gentle at first and they'll get stronger the more you train them. Also look into topping your plants. If you check my gallery you'll see a plant that I LST'd and topped a few times throughout veg. It's not very tall but VERY wide.

^^^^That was the first thing that came to my mind when I started reading at the top. I usually go by height (8 to 10 in.) & number of nodes (half dozen or so)when deciding when to start LST and not so much how old they are. If it was me, I'd let the plants get a few more nodes before tying them over.
Good luck BH with your grow & experiment.

n/p glad i saved the tutorials i did from overgrow dot com :) but hey when ya start the LST make sure the bottom is secured to 1 side of pot about 1.5-2 inch off soil. ok now very easy grab just under the top growth node and gently pull down you'll feel tension the whole way do maybe 25-30 deg bend at 1st see if the plant seems under stress if the tension dosent seem to much secure it. ya can adjust little each day until desired bend is achieved, once LST is started it really never ends until harvest. i was allways adjusting each branch so it had the best lighting g/l

LST when the plant is dry
excess water in the stem makes it snap
true but he coulda bent it too far at 1st also which is what most ppl do when they 1st LST a 25-30 deg bend even on a freshly watered plant shouldnt break. i done mine after watern i pulled untill i felt tension then let it loose just little and secured them :)))
