How small can you go without compromising quality?

How small can you go without compromising quality? I remember reading a FAQ on Overgrow that you could run a perpetual harvest sufficient for one person in as little as 1 cubic foot! No diagrams were provided to show how one could pull off such a feat, so I never really accepted this statement. But now I wonder. Do you think it could be done?

Assuming you had clones available for SOG or SCROG – how small a space could you get by with?

I was thinking it might be possible to construct a micro-stadium with 4-6 clones growing around a central full spectrum CFL (or maybe a small HPS in a mini-cooltube).

Awesome thread, thanks! That is a really impressive yield from such a small space. And those buds look tasty. I might have to try Sensi Star.

However he used a 2x3 foot space, plus unknown vertical space (a couple feet at least --- so that is more like 12 cubic feet.

Just for the sake of argument, I would like to know if a person could actually get a high quality yield from a 1 foot cubic space --- 1' x 1' x1' (or it could be cylinder or sphere, whatever shape you want). That was what the FAQ claimed on OG.

I never thought it was possible, but maybe it is. I can envision a small cube or cylinder with several clones surrounding a central cool tube (mini HPS or full spectrum CFL) in a sort of micro-colosseum.

Could it work?

The only way it is going to work, is if you obviously have a plant that is less than 12in... so first thing first, you need a pheno that is a heavy yielder and finishes at less than 12 in... good luck... lol

I don't really plan to grow that small. I will probably try a little scrog next, but using a salvaged chest or trunk to hide everything. I know I will need more space than 1 cubic foot.

Like I said in my first post, I first read about this one cubic foot claim on Overgrow. (I think it was in one of the Grow FAQs). At first I thought it was ridiculous too, but after seeing some computer case grows, I started to wonder if could actually be done.

There was another great post on here with a single RM Hashplant surrounded by homemade cooltubes. It was monster tree with a stem as thick as a beer can. It made me wonder if a similar approach could work on a smaller scale.

I was hoping one of the more engineering gifted folks on here could chime in and say "yeah buddy I think I could make it work." It is really more of a design challenge than anything else.

Who knows, maybe somebody at NASA will take an interest in coming up with the design! What else have they got to do on the space station anyway?
