How should I put out my clones next year??

Next year I should be able to aquire clones from a friend of c99 and herijuana. I have to drive about an hour or so to go pick them up the day that im going to put them out because I cannot put them in my house because I am renting with a nosey ass landlady. Plus the roomate wouldn't approve. So I am going to have my spots picked out and drop the clones off outside. I heard you should harden them off to the outdoors. Ive never used clones before only seed and don't want to mess my grow up because I won't be able to get that many. So what I am really wondering is the following:
-Will the car ride (about 1-2 hours darkness) mess them up?
-Should I give them anything?? (superthrive, etc.)
-Should I try to keep them shaded at first to adjust?
-Any other general tips/info??

Any info is much appreciated. Im trying to plan waay ahead. :chin:

The car ride shouldn't hurt them at all as long as you are careful. I get my clones at a med club that is about an hour and a half ride from my house and they always do fine.

I personally have never given any of my plants anything special when I put them outside.

You want to ween them to the harsh sunlight for about the first week. Let them sit in the direct sunlight for a couple of hours the first day and slowly increase the amount of time that they are in the sun every day until they are in full sunlight all day. If you put them in direct sunlight the first day you could burn them so gradually get them used to the intense sunlight.

Good thread... lots of people don't know how to treat clones and put them into an outdoor state...thanks for the advice

I usually don't harden my clones before putting them out but I do try and plant them late in the afternoon when the sun is low. this gives them all evening and night to help get accustomed to thier new home before the sun rises.

If they are healthy clones, you shouldn't have a problem.

I also give them a diluted mixture of ferts when they are planted. Many growers forget that they are mature plants and require food from the start.

good luck

This is such a great Question!! But it always, always, always comes up in every magazine, website, blah, blah. HERES an example of ''what not to Do'' Super-veg a beautiful fat leaf hash=plant under 24 on schedule.Top and super crop, fantastic bush. Load in a camper @night, drop into the ground. Come back a few days later and Say ''Oh my god,wha the hell happend''? wELL our good friend mr.SUN just burned the livin shit outta 75% of those huge ''tender'' fan Leaves. WHICH in essence has just shut down the factory that keeps said plant alive. Hardening off takes just a few days of the plant just being outside..1 week is perfect. Just put them anywhere, except for direct sunlight. YOU will notice the leaf texture really toughens-up in just a matter of days. I like to put them out when the forcast is rainy or overcast.I can understand the wanting to move them in and out of periodic sunlight..but for most it's just not realistic.

When it comes to hardening off plants, it is pretty hard to argue with the success of Sun light.

Nothing beats direct Sun light, and lots of it.

i like to harden off my plants, i start with morning sun and stradily increase the hours of light :) till i think there good to go out on there own

car ride wont harm the plants and they will do just fine after theyve got used to the big light outside

A 2 liter bottle w/ the bottom cut off and without the cap can protect small plants when they're getting acclimated to the outdoors. It helps keep temperatures and humidity higher, and keeps out wind and pests while the plants are getting used to natural light.

i dont think seeds need to be harden off if there grown directly in the sun from germination to veg growth thru transplanting and ect :)

ive down this on many occasions just germinated bagseeds inside an then put them in a bucket and watched them grow but they dont ever get anywhere as big as the ones started inside and taken out
