what i do is take plant place in sink or bathtub add water untill it just starts to drain, wait untill it stops draining now lift. this is your plants approxament weight fully watered, now every other day lift container you'll notice the moisture level droping in the soil. when it feels light i stick my index finger into soil if top 2 inch is dry i water again as described above.
I always use the weight of my container and the overall appearance of a plant to judge when its thirsty...if your leaves start to look weak and droopy, give it a good water and let it get dry again. I water every third day..
You know what I always do is feel the leaves... When it starts drying out the first thing that happens is the leaves get more coarse. Water your plants and feel the leaves a couple hours later, then feel them after you havent watered for a while and you will be able to see what I mean.
With good soil. you can water pretty much any time the soil's not already saturated. In other words, water whenever you want, just not when the soil's soaked, and don't wait til the soil is totally dry, that does major damage to the smallest, youngest roots. Besides that, just have fun, relax, it's actually hard to overwater weed in a good medium.
Just listen to your plants, they will tell you when they need water. In the begining you get focused on watering schedules and dont know when to water. That leads to overwatering most the time, whichis bad for your plants. I like ot let soil dry out a bit and let the roots look for water. I go 2-4 days between waterings but its never routine. If they need water they get it. You dont want to let it do to where leaves are droopy. Alot depends on temps, airflow ( or lack there of) wattage of light and so on. People with 2000 watts need to water more than someone with 150 watts. So its not an exact science. Pay attention to your girls, if you listen close they tell you what you need to do
It has taken me a good year now to get comfortable with letting them dry out between waterings. But I think this is necessary for good root production. Which as we know translates to a larger yield (all things being equal).
When I do water I use a EWC/guano/kelp/molasses teas every watering. I only give them a measured amount-in my flower pots (2 dry gallons) I give one full liter of pH'ed tea.
When the pot is lite again (4-5 days in the beginning to 2-3 days towards harvest) I do it agian. They love it.
