How often do you vaccinate your dog?

I used to vaccinate every year, intil I read somewhere that vacinnating every year was actually bad for your dog, and they should be done every three years.
Anyway I got a second dog from the rescue early this year and she arrived with kennel cough.
My other dog hadn't been vaccinated for 2 1/2 years and he never caught the kennel cough off her, even though she was coughing and sneezing everywhere.
So it seems they are right, dogs only need to be vaccinated every three years.

They try and give my dog a flu shot every time I go to the vet. I mean are you sucking kidding me. A flu shot for dogs? Dogs get the flu?

I don't vaccinate my dogs. Doesn't seem to help with parvo and if you have a _real_ conversation with a knowledgeable vet... you'll find they've seen enough evidence that they're not warranted either.

Vaccinated dogs seem to 'catch' more crap than non-vaccinated. At least in all the areas I've lived so far.

Between not vaccinating and not feeding them store food... my dogs have always been the healthiest dogs around. *shrug*

Once a year for the normal thing, what is it, 6 n 1 or 7 n 1, can't remember, and once every 3 years for the rabies. Got coyotes and other wild things that run all around here so some protection is better than none.

I work with animals I don't recommend to vaccinate every year the only time I vaccinate my dogs are at 8wks 10wks and 12wks of age and thats it no rabies either.

When was the last time you got a shot?????????????????/

Last time I got a shot was the last time I was in the hospital.

I vaccinate my dogs because I've seen too many die of Parvo, and we also have rabies quite prevalent up here.

I have a dog with Cancer right were I gave him his rabies shot. Exactly were I gave him his shot,in less than 30 days a knot showed up and started growing slowly. Now it's a big as a grapefruit and is covered with knots. He is 15 and has been a great dog.

I have dogs that are over ten years old and only had their puppy shots and their happy and healthy.

I read some were about a cancer causing virus put in vaccines as a experiment starting with dogs and cats. It went well and now guess who's vaccines the virus is in now.This is the Internet,it is real hard to tell what is true and whats just a conspiracy.

I personally think it's the food we're feeding our animals that is giving them cancer, right alongside us. Diabetes and other problems, too.

When I first rescued my dog she had several diet related issues. I got her on a raw, natural diet and everything cleared up in 3 weeks. 7 yrs old now and always mistaken for a puppy due to the condition of her coat, general health and activity level.

Feed them unprocessed food meant for their digestive system and they don't need all the man man drugs to fix the man made problems. Works for peeps too, lol.

My dog is actually too picky for me to be able to easily feed her such a diet, but when I switched her to a high quality food the local feed shop recommended, her coat and stools improved dramatically. I'm also able to feed her about 1/3 less food overall. Sometimes, if the cats catch an extra vole I think she eats them, which I think is probably about the best food the dog can get. Wild-caught, naturally fed, with all the guts and bones and everything in it.

Can you believe that if I give my dog meat with too much fat on it she won't eat it? She just looks at me like, "Would you eat that?" and I'm all, "Yes! I would eat it but it makes me fat! What's wrong with you? It's perfectly good gristle you're letting go to the raccoons there, dog."

@sea I meant a vaccine. And you have had a hard time with parvo because you did not vaccinate at the right time or vaccinated improperly. once a pup has 3 sets of shots you are good to go. I work with parvo all day come home greet the dogs and not once my dogs have gotten sick from parvo. As long as you hit them at 8wkls 10 wks and 12 wks.

And I only vaccinate puppys. Never past A year old there is no need to.

Don't ask your vet he will always want to vaccinate a full check up is around 200.

@little sorry to hear that about your dog. See your vet knew the prognosis of your dog and still choose to vaccinate. For the love of money. Your vet is not your friend but hired help.

last dog got all shots the vet reccomended. my new dog only got all her shots first year or so. i aint getting any more unless i have too. she dont leave the property much at all . so i dont expect any probs.

i did my dogs each on at a year...just a general 1 year vaccination...one of them did catch parvo but im convinced it was caught at the vet while waiting to get the shots...

The dogs I've seen killed by Parvo were all dumped dogs. Where my parents live is a hilly, relatively rural area in the LA basin. People have been taking their dogs and cats up there to dump them for DECADES. There isn't a neighbor who doesn't have a pet they garnered from the street. The dogs were all older, I couldn't guess their backgrounds, if or when they might have been vaccinated.

Depends on the vaccine, who makes it and what it's for. Newer more modern vaccines are often good for longer, typically three years. If the vet's not telling you then ask or get a new vet. My vet is great, she explains everything right up front. Other than infectious disease, most of your health problems in dogs like cancer and musculoskeletal problems like bad hips and so forth are due to inbreeding. All your dog breeds are the result of inbreeding. There's a reason why it's illegal to breed with your sisters and cousins because it causes birth defects. That's what happened with dogs in the last 100 years.
