How much herb to use when making butter?

So I haven't made butter in years and haven't smoked in years as well. But due to sleep issues I want to make some butter out of some herb I have stored away. I have some AK 47 that was taken down a little early and isn't as strong as it normally would be (from what I can remember). Its been stored and "curing" for over 2 years. So being that I haven't smoked or eaten edibles in over 2 years how much herb should I use to make this butter? I was thinking about making 2 sticks worth. The consistency of the AK is kind of leafy too btw, but have some big buds too. Appreciate the help!

Most people use 1 oz. of material with trichomes to 4 sticks of butter. I don't think that is strong enough.

Thanks man! It seems like a dumb question, but I wasn't sure if I should add less than 1 oz per pound of butter, due to the fact that I have zero tolerance right now. I ended up going with 1 oz and decided to go with 1 pound of coconut oil instead of butter. I've got it doing it's thing in my crock pot right now. Damn it smells good!

Cool. I'm looking to do the same thing with coconut oil. How much coconut oil by volume equates to 1 pound?
Also how long are you simmering the oil in the crockpot?

The coconut oil was AWESOME! I ended up letting it simmer in my crockpot for about 5 hours and it was around 210 degrees. I have a pretty accurate digital food thermometer. I used 35 grams of AK and ended up with about 400 grams of coconut oil. I ate 8 grams of the oil alone, and it actually tasted pretty good. It took about 2 hours to fully kick in, which I thought was weird, but when it did WOW! It was almost a little too much hahaaa. Just like my first time again, seriously!

Just to put in my 2 cents worth. I make butter about every 3 months or so. I use all the leaf material, smalls buds, and sometimes bud trimmings that I have accumulated, dried, and turned in to a powder using a food processor from each harvest. I harvest, on average, 2 -3 plants every two weeks or so. In a three month period I will usually will have a pound or so of powder. To this I add 1 pound of butter. I'm new to the crock pot method, and will be trying it next.

Glad you had a good time man! And yea when you eat it, it is VERY much dependent on what's in you belly already. When I haven't eaten, I can feel it in 30min. If I eat some say, after dinner, it could take up to 2-2.5 hours to kick in.

And as you've noticed, Coconut oil has a much higher fat content than butter so you are absorbing more of the THC compared to regular butter. Which is why you felt it was way strong.. because it was. :)
