How much ducting is too much?

I ask because I'm setting up ventilation. I could go from the carbon filter through 4-5ft of duct, to the Vortex (6" 449 CFM), out the window thru another 4-5 feet of duct...

Air is being pulled from the filter, not pushed through it. Duct is 6" aluminum ducting.

So:

Carbon filter --> 3-4ft duct --> pull through Vortex --> push air out window through 3-4ft duct

OR I can go

Carbon filter --> 2-3ft duct --> reflector to cool light --> 3-4ft duct --> pull through Vortex --> push air through 3-4ft duct outside

I'm wondering if this would diminish airflow, even though it'd be PULLING from the room around the corners created by all this duct work (fan is located outside the growroom) and would only be pushing the air around a curve out the window.

I hope I explained that well enough, if I didn't I can take a picture and try to point out what I'm thinking of doing.

Thanks for any advice!

-edit- also where could I get more of those duct clamps that came with the duct? I could use a couple more to tighten things up...would Lowe's/Home Depot have these?

yes ... home depot for clamps.

as far as diminishing air flow, from what i understand , the closer you have your vortex to your carbon filter & lights, the more efficient it will run. you have it 6-8 feet from the source, get it closer to the source , let it push the air the rest of the way. my:2cents:

Pushing it will definitely diminish around the corners though, that's why I was wondering about pulling... Keeping the Vortex where it is now, there's 0 vibrations in the walls because it's in the box it came in with duct running through it, sitting on top of a set of shelves. If I get it closer it'll have to be mounted on the top of the room, then it'll make lots of vibrations.

Also, I walked outside and check on the noise level. It's not super loud but anyone walking around out back will hear it. Could you suggest a way to reduce the noise level without building a window box? If I have to built a window box I guess that's what I have to do, but if there's an alternative I am all ears!

I just noticed, They have smaller, cheaper, fans to help push the air through the ducting . You might want to check them out.
