How Much Cfm For 4 400w?

a friend of mine asked me how much cfm he would need for his 4 cooltubes.
his question was about running 4 400w hps in a straight line.
to be honest i dont have any idea. i found it quite difficult to find a reliable listing of what temp one 400 would produce, never mind 4 in a row.
so, how much cfm does he need? he told me he was looking at a 10" can max fan and use adapters at either end of the cooltubes, the ones he wants are 8".

thanks for any input or answers you guys have!!:respect:

peace and pot everybody!

Here’s how you can calculate the amount of ventilation you need. If for instance you wanted to keep you grow room temperature from getting any more than 5° warmer than the intake air temperature, and you were using 1600 watts of power, you’d make the calculation below. It is a well-established heat transfer formula.

CFM = 3.2 x Wattage / Difference in Degrees F

so using this formula

(3.2 x 1600 watts)/5 degrees = 1024cfm

If he uses the 10" can max fan (1023cfm) he should be ok. With this fan you should only be 5 degrees warmer than the intake air. Now this does not account for the length of the ducting which may cause you to use a more powerful fan.

I got this formula from another site I hope this helps you.
