how many people use both mh and hps for their grows

Hey gang I have question for those who grow using both spectrum of hid. I normally veg with a 400 watt agrosun gold mh and flower with a reg 600 wt hps. I usually switch to the hps once I flip to 12/12, but I'm thinking of staying with the mh until the initial flowering stretch is done. when do you all switch to hps.

I do pretty much what your planning on doing pete. I leave the MH on till about 10 days (strain depending usually) or more, than switch.

Take care

I use a sun systems 800 watt combo fixture for vegging, what can I say except its the ultimate bomb.It sits side by side with an aircooled 1K MH and always at least gives me identical or better results. Its a large roomy fixture too, you'd think aircooling is necessary but the way its made,I dont find it necessary. The ultimate would be the sun systems 600HPS/400W combo.I'll replace each and every high wattage HID I have with this fixture,no question. And I'm a vertizontal freak!

I am a new grower, but a fairly well read new grower, for what that is worth.
I used 400w MH to veg, then I bought a 400w HPS two weeks into flower. I used both through flower and I am now reveging with both. I do not think light colore has a much to do with any of the key points, yeild and quality, but I do know that more light and mixed light has to be better than one light alone. I could have had more yeild, but my pots were too small I think. I had one gallon pots for 24 inch big bud plants, and I felt that growth and bud development were retarded. I have switched to 3 gallon pots since I went into reveg. BTW, I have a couple really nice looking big bud mothers and plan to be cloning for a SCROG in a week or so. Maybe even this weekend. This bubble cloner I built from here has a heater and bubbler and I fully expect somewhere around 100% from what I am reading. I can just see my screen of green how.. ahhhhhh

for years relied solely on MH for veg & flower, a 1k @ that. tried a run of a good stoney strain under a HPS, let it go longer & it came out even more potent. come to find out had actually waited til the trics had turned mostly red, lol. now imo it is just a preference. am runnin 2 side by side, a 400HPS & a 400MH, workin good.

I use both MH for veg and HPS for flower, but I am now trying to switch over to CFLs for veg because I only have a 400w ballast and Im trying to go perpetual.

I guess I've been smoking so long the clear/cloudy up high gig doesnt apply to me lol,I've been successful waiting until I think the plants are riper than hell, then I wait 2 more days.Amber trichs are a definate preference for me.

Sammet there's dual spectrum fixtures,(Sun Systems, growzilla)and dual spectrum lamps which although effective, are mostly alotta hype.In reality a standard hortilux is dual spectrum,it's semantics and sales tactics.Dont get me wrong any horticultural lamp will beat out a commercial lamp to flower plants,I've found them unnecessary for veg though.Dual fixtures truly mix the spectrum, especially sun systems with lamps oriented tip to tip.Growzilla's are situated side by side and wouldn't be as effective I believe,I've never actually used one.Side by side just seems hokey to me lol

The last thing I want to do is make anyone feel foolish,I'm sorry it ended that way.I just feel obligated to give what I've learned back on each and every thread,I know this rubs some the wrong way and I apologize for that.I apologize, but I won't stop.

Believe it or not, you are better off vegging with the 600 HPS also. The extra 200 watts and 1/3 more lumens more than offsets the spectrum. Why not use both of them for veg and flower?

Hey bob, no worries mate. Cheers for the info - I'm glad to learn as much as I can, must be a language thing. No need for apologies, people like you make this forum what it is- a rich source of information, and a friendly welcoming community.

I'm a weenie sometimes,I always get over it though bro.Sometimes in retrospect I dont understand why I post the things I do,I reread them and wonder what hilltop this motherfucker's perched on,sometimes I get a kick, oftentimes not. It's the way I speak I know, but my intentions are educational mainly because of the obligations I feel.Where I am today is not where I was 5 years ago,I want to pass that on before the big dirt nap lol

I use to veg with an hps in my c13, but one thing I noticed is they really stretch a lot . the mh lets me veg for about 6weeks while keeping the height manageable 12" - 14".Plus it saves quite a bit of electricity. my hydro hut mini is big enough for me to put another daystar ac . I could run both side by side and duct both hoods inline

Thats a good observation, and well documented by growers internode length is increased when HPS is used in a veg photoperiod, but like JJ said my experience has been if you can mix them,it's all the better in both photoperiods.I used my combo for flower at first,I got a third vertizontal and it became a permanent veg fixture.Alongside an aircooled 1K MH it performs the smae or better, hard to tell lol.I havent used the newer horticultural lamps that propose a mixed spectrum, but mixed spectrum fixtures really do perform.I want a gymn fulla 600/400 combo's,it's an attainable goal so long as the akohol buzz lasts lol

I hear ya . Ive been growing for 4 years now and just when you think you have it dialed in you find something or buy something thats just a little bigger and badder and it starts all over again. I started off with a c13 and thought that was great, then moved up to a c22 and figured that was big enough. now I have the hydrohut mini, and wished I would have got the hydro hut original
